HUGE Range till empty

Featured Replies

I filled the car up today (ouch) and got this result, about 30 miles afterwards.

I have seen over 700 miles on the old 06 octy, but 755 miles on the 08 one was really good!

The car is regularly doing over 60mpg, now it has loosened up. It seemed much tighter initally than the old one, which I also had from new.

Over 60mpg? Wow!

What engine is in your octy?

How sure are you about the trip computer accuracy? Have you calcualted this manually to check?

i reckon my trip computer is about 10% wrong. records 50+ but brim to brim works out a 10mile/lt = 45mpg.

Also the read out in the original post will change. I think it uses the calculation from the last stop.

I can better 60 . . . . .

After 40 miles driving two weeks ago I had 72mpg on the average mpg display.

We were heading from Pontalier (800+ metres up near the Alps) into the Saone Valley (Villefranche) so generally downhill. It is a 1.9tdi 105 and we were not rushing.

I once managed 99.9, being towed by a tow truck after the garage had failed to tighten something up properly and the gearbox sounded like it would self destruct......

Engine is 1.9 Tdi. Not sure about the accuracy yet, if you look at the display, you'll see that the car has only done 977 miles! Will let you know in a few hundred miles how accurate it appears to be!

I'd be worried if my new engine produced such good mpg, I begin to question the tightness of the engine.

As with any new car I have run in (6 and counting!) I check the oil every other day, and always before a long run. This car has not used any oil to date. I am just beginning to extend the throttle to full in short bursts, including a 100 mph run (on private roads) yeterday. This car seems no different than the last one (which was identical in spec.) but it was definitely tighter when brand new. It has now begun to noticably loosen up, being much easier to rev than before. It is now standing at 1100 miles.

Trips lie big time! Mine will say i have '100 mile left' for e.g but then if i drive 10 more miles it might say i have 80 miles left!

Shouldnt go by it to be honest, it also says i get over 60MPG on every jouney but it never works out that way.

The general consesus at least for PD105s seems to be just about exactly 10% over-read.
