I hit a bloody pheasant today...

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Major crisis in the life of my motor, on the way back from work this very evening I rounded a corner to find a pheasant sat in the middle of the road. With a car coming in the opposite direction and little chance to break I had no choice but to run the damn thing down... this is after what must have been hours in pheasant time whilst it ran back and forth across my lane of the road.

The resulting damage was this:

So I'm missing that part of my grill now!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad: (And yes I know the car is very dirty).

And also this:

The bumper actually hung a bit further off on first inspection. I pushed it back together and all of it seemed to click into place apart from this damned final bit.

So a couple of questions for Skoda Gurus because this is seriously gonna bug me!

  1. Can I purchase the missing part of my bumper? Either from Skoda or elsewhere. And how much will this set me back
  2. Is there a trick to getting this last clip in so I can set my damned bumper right!!

I am in all your debts, please help me!!! :o

For that last bit of the bumper, if you pull the edge out again, you will see a little plastic sticky out bit on the bumper which has to go behind a bit of plastic on the car. It will be obvious if you pull it out a fair bit, then try to push it back in again slowly whilst someone is pushing on the bumper from the front, to push it back. The plastic bit should be obvious though. :)

Hope you kep the Pheasant, they are great in a pie.

Well I hope you picked the dead bird up:

Stuffed Roast Pheasant

Ingredients:

1 pheasant (dressed and prepared)

3 rashers of back bacon (or streaky)

2oz butter

5fl oz white wine (or red which will give it a deeper richer flavour-too strong for some palate)

1 tablespoon redcurrant jelly

juice of 1/2 lemon

4 slices (which will be fried) white bread

For the stuffing:

8oz pork sausagemeat

1 small onion (VERY finely chopped)

1 apple (desset-peeled, cored and chopped)

2 tablespoons parsley

salt & pepper

1 egg (beaten)

Method(for stuffing):

Set oven to 350F. In a bowl mix together the sausagemeat, onion, parsley and season to taste. Bind the mixture with the beaten egg. Stuff the pheasant using any leftovers for stuffing balls (which some prefer) and cook around the bird in the dish.

Method(for bird):

Place bird on a roasting tin and wrap the rashers around the bird. Brush the butter over the bird and cook for 35-45 minutes. Remove from the oven and drain the fat. Place back in the roasting tray (if it has been removed) and rub gently over the bird the redcurrant jelly. Then pour the wine and the lemon juice over the bird (most of the jelly will wash off into the roasting tray).

Return the bird to the oven for another 20-25 minutes, keeping the bird moist by basting regularly. Fry the four slices of bread (plate them)and once the bird has cooled slightly cut it into four pieces and place on top of the bread. Now quickly boil the gravy to reduce it to a fine sauce and pour over the four game pieces.

Should serve four people and should be accompanied by a potato dish of choice.

Just been a tried this mate... I can see the plastic bit, but this damned last little bit of the bumper won't push into place :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Is it possible I've broken sumet??

Not sure if it will help, but if you pop the bonnet you'll see two bolts where the bumper mounts on to. (13mm bolts I think, maybe 10mm) I would recommend undoing them and wiggling the bumper about to ensure it's not been pushed in too hard on those 2 mounts. I'm clutching at straws now and the only other thing I can think of is perhaps the impact broke the black plastic hex strip thing the bumper clips into on the wing?

alright buddy cheers, it's too dark to do anything now but I'll have a look in the morning and report back. Appreciate the help.

Anyone any word on my missing grill part?

Anyone any word on my missing grill part?

I'd go back to the scene and try and find it. Probably not actually broken, and not a cheap part to replace (as will need spraying, etc) If all the clips are OK it should just clip back in where it popped out. They just push in the gap.

Going back and finding it won't be an option as I'm not 100% which stretch of road it happened on... and i'm commuting 70 miles to work atm and it's about 35 miles away!!! I saw somet fly off into the grass, I thought it was the bird's body! If i'd known it was the bit of plastic I'd've stopped and gone and got it!!! Bloody bird.

Do you think Skoda will sell me a new one??

Do you think Skoda will sell me a new one??

Oh for definite, and you need the 2 separate parts that make up that section, and the "cross member" bit will need painting in black magic.

I got my vRS grill bits off a useful contact on Ebay I have. ;)

You know how much it's gonna set me back? I had £50 squirreled away from sum badges and my cupra splitter, will that cover it?? (I could spray it myself I've got a couple of cans of black magic, some primer, and lacquer)... if they're easy to fit???

£50 will cover the two parts fine (you'd get good change from my source for skoda bits ;)), and if you're happy enough to DIY spray the cross member bit, then all's good. Piece of p**s to fit. ;) They just clip in.

Hey guys, managed to finally get my bumper back on... but on closer examination I've found this:

headlight2.jpg

headlight3.jpg

It's broken the plastic housing's brackets that fix it onto the body!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::eek::eek::eek::eek::mad::mad::mad:

  • Does anyone know the part number for the headlight plastic housing? (Driver's side).

  • Also, does anyone know what the bulbs are that go in the front fogs? As the driver's side one is broken as well....

  • and an easy way of getting at the fogs that doesn't involve taking the front bumper off?

the same thing happened to me when I hit a ingot . . .

Super glue will help u . . .:P ( No, really, it would )

Don't think that'll be strong enough mate, besides I'd rather get the actual part. cheers tho.

Evolution... I cannot believe there are any pheasants still around. They are the single stupidest animal I know. The number of dead pheasants I pass on my daily commute to the borders is huge, and they really do not like/know how to get out of the way when facing a car at 60mph!

Anyway, good luck with the repair. Im sure you will have the car back to its glorious best in no time!

That plastic clip is part of the whole light unit I believe, so I would save on the expense and remove those 2 screws on both sides, and attempt a repair back on to the light to make good. I think superglue, then a good amount of tough tape wrapped around should hold it.

Front fogs do not come out unless you take the bumper off. It's not too hard.

that black plastic foglight surround cost f@% all i bust mine when i hit a fox a few months back it was about 5 quid if you bust the painted bit to though that will cost you a fair bit by the time you get it painted up i got quoted 50 quid for that at the main dealer but i decided the light damage wasnt worth worrying about and just clipped the old painted part into the new plastic part which held it.

Fog light bulbs are H3. And sorry it's a bumper off job, Though if its just the drivers side you might be able to do it in situ. There's a fair bit of room on that side

Get a small mirror and a lot of light in there and you should be able to change it out.

ouch !! wildlife isn't good but make sure you DONT hit a badger or your bumper wouldn't be there ;)

That's a lot of damage from an ickle pheasant  Are you sure it wasn't an ostrich ?

Don't think that'll be strong enough mate, besides I'd rather get the actual part. cheers tho.

I used superglue on mine after I contacted three deer, and it was not a problem

As for the fog light then you have the answer to hand as there is no grill plate alongside it just put your hand in and replace, before you refit the grill

National

IMO superglue and/or a modest amount of epoxy. Superglue to hold it together in place, then epoxy to strengthen the joint and resist and vibrations.
