Full programing of key fob Octavia vRS mkI

Featured Replies

Hi Guys and Girls

I know this has been discussed in other posts but i am hoping that one of you guys will be able to tell me if there is somewhere or someone in the Dorset area that can help me with programing a new key for my car. When i purchased Chiggy Chiggy (this is what my son has named it) she only came with one key which is not programed to the central locking, so i purchased a new key from ebay forgetting that the key will need to be matched to the immobiliser.

Hopefully one of you guys will be able to help me as i am about as useful as a chocolate tea pot when it comes to this sort of stuff.

Thanks in anticipation

Rikki

Do you have the 4 digit SKC which is normally supplied on a plastic key tag?

  • Author

Unfortunately not, apparently they stopped providing this with the cararound 2001 so would have to get it if it is essential from Skoda

New cars are still supplied with it.

If you don't have it then a dealer really is your best bet.

Is there no way to obtain the code from the dealer??

The dealers don't see them any more, they are generated online with the car connected to the diagnostic system

ah i see. I have read on other posts that vag-com is able to re pogram the keys. Is it able to see the code also? If so do you know if there is anyone other than the dealers in the area that could do this for me?

VAG-COM cannot read nor generate a code.

As I said you are best to go to a dealer.

There are one or two programs that claim to be able to extract a code but in all honesty it isn't worth messing around for a single use.

Ok Thanks for the help will give tham a ring.

I have to disagree slightly....the code can be had and the key reprogrammed for a fair bit less than the dealers price though it is less hassle to go to the dealers, Then either use program to help others or sell on at same price....worked for me and saved me some money. (1 prog will scan for code and also program keys)

I have also made most of my money back as a mate needed a new key and gave me £20 for my hassle.

The benefit of this way is that you have the SKC for the life of the car which might or might not come in handy and could be worth more in long run than the £27 quid spent.

Aint saying your wrong just that in some peoples case the other method would be better as Skoda aint giving you your code!

The software you elude to is available as I said above however it is not a 100% solution.

I agree it can be a bonus to get the cable etc and work it out yourself but as I also said for simplicity and cost effectiveness the dealer is probably your better option. A dealer should only really charge 30 mins labour which is going to be around £35 - £40.

What I would actually like to see is for somone to challange SUK to provide a code which, as I understand it you are entitled to request in return for a nominal fee.

For coding a key to the immo up to 2004 models this can be a 100% solution to the OP's problem unless needing a new transponder(cheap to replace), Unless the solution you're on about is actually SUK's refusal to give the SKC's out to customers which i think we both agree on - Its balls

I dont really disagree like i worded the last post (bit tired and only word that came to mind), I just think all avenues should have been explored before hitting the dealers as its not like the 2nd key is of the utmost importance at this minute. (unless he loses other)

There could be people close to him that can help for very little expense but will never know if he goes to the dearest place first.

You aint wrong as you know, I just think The OP should make his choice based on having all info there so he can decide which option benefits him.

Good luck with your investigations and nice to see a Briskodian in Bournemouth also:thumbup:

Indeed, I fully agree however I also see a lot of people who discount the dealers without checking as they assume that they are expensive.

There are frequently threads posted for things like where can I buy X or Y, I don't want to try the dealers as I know they'll rip me off. Yes the dealers aren't all angels and yes they are in it to make money but some of them are very reasonable and often very helpful.

I would have to disagree that the software you mention is 100% reliable up to 2004, it isn't I'm afraid so the OP could invest in the equipment only to find it didn't work in his case. That said it is good and if it works for you then it's perfect and I can't fault you for making it work.

As I said above the proper solution is to challange SUK to provide the code that you are entitled to under the EU Block Exemption legislation.

I said "it can be a 100% solution" not once did i say 100% reliable, You only have to look at the OS this software was written for to know it aint ever gonna be 100% reliable.

There are many posts out there that agree this software can (certain dash's etc) get the code and code the key = 100% solution to what the OP wants ?

As for dealers your comments are spot on.

Its all about being given the facts and freedom of choice as you said some people post asking about DIY instead of dealers there again there are others who wont even look at DIY and just use dealers.....it's swings and roundabouts where we always try to get the best result at the cheapest price.

How many people have been given the code by any means even with EU legislation in place (except when new etc) and how far do i as a consumer have to go to challenge this ?

Hi Guys

Thanks for the info.

With regards to the Software, what is the succes rate of doing it this way (roughly) and do either of you know anybody who is likely to have it in this area as i wouldnt want to buy it for my self as i would be unlikely to use it again.

Is the process once the SKC number has been acquired quiet a simple one??

And thanks for the welcome Taxi219. Where abouts in Bournemouth you from?? Im in Christchurch. I drive what i believe to be the only Red Octavia RS in the area.

Once you have your SKC you'll then need to code the keys, I think VAG-Tacho can do this for you. V2.2 seems to be the most complete version.

Maybe you could arrange to borrow tartenarmy's for a small consideration.

More than welcome to get done here.....i wouldn't want anything either as its paid for itself.

In reality there is gonna be someone close by who has the means of getting the code and programming the key either free(vag forums user) or small charge, I know a small VW garage close by me uses it.

Yea 2.2 can retrieve SKC and code the key, I dont know success rates as that would involve trawling sites working out an average but if your car is before 04 and the laptop is stable (also has to be xp or virtual xp on vista) i would presume its gonna be ok.

Now working on your car or not you can still sell on and still be happy

Just some light reading on the subject

The reason Skoda (and the rest of the VAG fraternity) dont give out the code is what is the point of a security system when the answer to the system is available. Regardless if its yours or not if no one knows the actual SKC then unless you have VAG TACHO you cant get around it by just reprogramming keys. Its to encourage insurance compainies to lower premiums and increse the security of your car.
