Rear End Flex

Featured Replies

Hi Gang

Not too sure but i swear that theres some body flex at the rear of my vRS. I know there are those 2 little conner braces but i think i need a Nissan Zed 350 type rear Brace.

Will draw one up tonight, will need to be removable so i can use the boot....see what i can come up with.

Cheers

Mike

While you're on then Mike knock up one for the Estate aswell. I've got AutoCAD so that format would be fine ;)

No Problem JIm

If you pull the carpet back you find by the rear percel selve and the speckers. Just behind them are the rear suspension turrets. Now VAG have been kind enogth to use a frame work support rather than a double skin.

Need 2 plates to sandwich the turret, than a stainless steel surface plate the mounting plates will have M16 boess on them. Than a 38 MM 2 mm wall 316 grade seemless Tube with right hand/Left hand M 16 fittings in each.

Some stunding, with quick release levers............on or off in 6-10 seconds.

I wonder if we have anyone on the BB that could test it?

Cheers

Mike

Failing that... AAT can supply a rear strut brace. maybe a butchered one of those would help.. or at least makeing quick release easier.

Easy for me just make one....i run an Architectural Engineering Company...We make alsorts out of Stainless steel...........just done a large order of Tube handles.

No Problem...........I did a rear brace for an MG chap........Anyone want to see it?

Cheers

Note the way the actual brace is connected to the turret mounts for easy removal

Yep, the MG "Test pilot" was impressed, the back end of the car was tighted up no end. I am doing a few for them now and thought about how to make one for the dear old vRS!

The major issue with the Octy one is IIRC the need to drill the holes in the suspension turret.. which i also presume is reinforced anyway and would need some pretty hefty bolts to offer a decent amount of support.

Not so.

On the Oct I seen that VAG have been kind and left are large cut out in the out suspension pannel. Thus a simple sandwitch plate assembley can be used, no drilling anything, only need to cut the carpet to allow the tube unions to pass through.
