Bloody rip-off!!!

Featured Replies

Hey guys... noticed some oil leaking out the bottom of the car yesterday and traced it to the bottom of the distributor extension tube so took it off and noticed the gasket had disintegrated!

So after some faffing about setting the engine to TDC as the dizzy had shifted while taking it out i rang skoda garage round the corner today to get a new one... and the price for this tiny gasket.... wait for it....

26 pence!!!!! Surely the reciept is going to cost more to print than that!!! lol

Have found skoda to be good for little parts like this... gaskets and washers etc... its just when you get to real solid parts that they start to rip you off! lol

A brake vacuum servo for a Skoda Favorit is close to £200 :thumbdwn: a steering rack is £160 but that probably excludes VAT so is probably £188 (their attempt at selling "we've got one in stock").

Jorily Skoda has non original Vacuum servos for £68 delivered, and I got a genuine steering rack for £115 delivered from Jorily.

A brake master cylinder isn't too bad from Skoda dealer at £40, a non-genuine one is £37 delivered from Jorily with a bit of a wait for delivery.

Jorily can be a life saver sometimes!!! lol

It actually worked out to be 31 pence including VAT!

I gave them 40 pence and said i didn't want the change... how generous of me!!!

If it's anything major that i require... the skoda garage certainly isn't the first place i turn to!!!

thermostat and housing for my felly fun £25 form skoda found both for £5 including postage on ebay bargain

Lets be realistic here, Felicias havent been made for nearly 8 years now, so why would dealers have parts anyway?

They can only get what they can seem as the parts are not made in massive volumes anymore.....

The like of "jorily" etc are great, till they run out of stock....

Slightly off topic, but I thought dealers were legally required to carry parts for cars a certain length of time after they have stopped making the car?

Dont know 100% in fairness...

If so i doubt 8 years would be the figure....

Besides, you cant stock everything for christs sake!

Ill correct what i said, dealers cant be expected to carry everything for Felicias.

I can still buy Favorit stuff at the dealers - even small bits like gear linkage bits specific to the Favorit - but they don't have it in stock, they have to special order it which means going, ordering and going to collect later. I suspect many of the parts they do have are bits left in a warehouse though, and are no longer made. Luckily some bits on the Felicia are the same as the Favorit.

Exactly, we carry a fair bit of stock for Favorit & Felicia, so were ok, its just some small items that we dont carry now.

IIRC you must still be able to get parts for a car for a certain (quite long) time after manufacturing ceased under EU law. I can't remember how long that is and it doesn't say they have to be cheap either.

Ill find out i think, but lets be fair, i think if a part is no longer available, then its how it is unfortunatly.

Back on topic, its great that a lot of small parts are cheap for Felicias, its sometimes the other way round!

Just paid £2.09 excl vat for a brake vacuum servo suction seal thing that according to Haynes you have to replace when the seal is disturbed. Got it today and it's only a tiny rubber O ring - was expecting something more substantial. Luckily it seems none of my selection of O rings are exactly the same size Oh well. Suppose the gaskets and seals that are cheap make up for it though :D

IIRC its 10 years from the date of last production.

Jorily won't run out of Stock, they have access to a massive warehouse in Czech Republic, anything they haven't got in their UK stock can be ordered and sent direct from Czech via Airmail.

Genuine parts is that!?

yes, both genuine and non genuine.

How can you get genuine then when they have run out and are obsolete?

  • 1 year later...

I doubt there obsolete,I don`t know about the UK but here in Malta you see one everywhere you go,even really cool after market stuff is being made like Favorit plastic tail gates.

I can't remember who, but at least one manufacturer states that they keep spares for a minimum of 15 years after product ceases. Besides, THEY dont make the parts, so if a car is popular the people who DO make the parts will keep churning them out; and there are PLENTY of fellys about; I see 4-6 every morning on the way to school.

VW, IIRC

I'm not so sure of that, given that so many parts are NLA for Audi.

Favorit's and Felicia's are all over Europe, in their thousands

in the Chek republic and eastern block countries, so they will

keep them going.

I have a felicia from new and the dealer in Malta stocks all parts,

they even still stock parts for the 120 (estelle), on the very odd occasion

they are out of stock they will order it for you.
