vRS / Cupra S

Featured Replies

Can someone clear up this office argument.

Is the Octy vRS built on the same VAG platform as the Cupra S

Thanks

Yes. Both built on the golf platform

If the Cupra is based on the Golf MKIV platform (I think it might be) then it is.

Do you mean Cupra-R? The Leon and Octavia share underpinnings. The Leon Cupra-R has a bigger turbo than the Octavia vRS, hence the higher standard power output. It will also chip reliably to 260+ BHP

The Leon R has the same engine as the TT and S3 so its s little more than a bigger turbo.

But yes the Octavia, Leon, Audi A3 and MK4 Golf all share the same platform and basic suspension/steering set ups.

Four motion is the same as the Octavia 4x4, Quattro and Leon 4 systems

i always thought quattro was different from 4 motion

Ditto. Or do Audi still do that bizarre capital Q, little q thing?

of course if you mean ibiza cupra, then the answer is no.

sorry yes its quattro, my bad.

And they are exactly the same.

does the vRS (octy) have the same front suspension etc as the TT ?

sure i read that somewhere...

it will be the same engine as the 180 bhp cupra T (which I tried first before I sat in the vRS - suffice to say the 'tavia was nicer inside and felt better put together)

sorry yes its quattro' date=' my bad.

And they are exactly the same.[/quote']

Are you sure Ross? I thought quattro used the Torsen diff and the 4 motion the Haldex clutch?

Also aren't you able to play around with the diff settings on quattro where as not with the Haldex?

Hmmm....thinking about this a little more then if your talking S3 specific then I think this has the Haldex even though is marketed as quattro.

All a but confusing.....;)

The Audi A3/S3 and TT deffo uses the Haldex system though its labeled as quattro, im quite sure ive changed a few.

The A4 etc uses a torsen diff etc.

And the vRS Octy doesnt have the same front suspension as a quattro TT as its front wheel drive

Ross you are right. The Golf IV (and maybe V) platform cannot accomodate the Quattro system, so for the Audi A3 and TT Quattro they had to use the Haldex system used in the rest of the platforms 4x4 models.

the new MK V Golf and A3 have a different version of the Haldex system

I know the chap that helped to design the front suspension for the mk4 Golf and he lives in Glasgow!

He told me that the front end of the vRS is more silmilar to the TT.

Anyone clarify?

Erm I think we allready have.
