Help I want to buy a skoda but ...

Featured Replies

Hi all! I'm new to this site & new to the Skoda experience. Skoda has only just been released in Australia after a 25 year absence from the market. I took a Skoda Octavia for a test drive yesterday and loved it but I've been reading a few forums ... has anyone experienced gear box faults or electronic glitches or any other issues which i should take note of before going ahead and buying this car? I've also heard that there are some engine problems?

I thought I'd get some advice from you guys as you've had the pleasure of Skoda in your market/s for what, a hundred years now?

Thanks heaps ... just nervous!

 cheers am looking at the Octavia Elegance 1.8 auto model? This is the link to the Aussie Skoda site koda Showroom - Simply Clever - koda Australia

Thanks again!

Hello & welcome to Briskoda :)

If you post this in the Octavia section, you will get loads more responses as not everybody looks in this bit.

I can't help you unfortunately as I have a Fabia vRS so no real experience of the Octavia.

(Do they do the Fabia in Australia)

Ben

Hi Ben! thanks for the advice ... shall do ... um no Fabia here in Oz yet ... Skoda's all so new here ... really love the car, so plushy inside, drink coolers and all the gadgets i love!!! Do you love your Skoda? or is that a dumb question?

Looking at the specification is only states these engines for the elegance, not an auto version of the 1.8TSI.

1.8TSI/118 kW 6 spd man

2,0FSI/110 kW 6 spd auto

2,0TDI-PD/103 kW 6 spd man/6 spd auto DSG

What warranty do they offer ?

I love my Skoda.

Hiya.

The 1.8T is a fairly new engine but the similar 2.0T has been available for a few years and seems to be nice and reliable so I wouldn't expect many problems there.

You'll be able to find people complaining of faults on just about every make of car if you look hard enough and Skodas are no exception , but on the whole the owners seem happy with them and they always do well on reliability surveys.

I probably won't be buying another one when I come to change but that's down to some poor service from dealers and Skoda UK's customer service department , plus I just fancy a change.

Hiya.

What Dr Z says about the variability of the dealers here is quite true. I reckon the service I've had is exemplary, but I've heard stories about some being truly dire.

As others, I'd check whether your looking at an Octy 1 or 2, and ask in the relevant forum.

Welcome :)

As Skodas are new in Australia it will be the Mk 2 Octy as they arent selling the Mark 1 there.

Echoing other peoples comments, they are indeed topping nearly every reliability/cost of ownership/satisfaction survey going.

Go for it, you know you want to!
