That might be a little picky as the OP implies he'd spoken to the chap: Msg #21: Quote: "The fact he said he has stopped so he could turn around (on a dual carriageway) shocked me!" Unquote

I do take the OP's point that if a driver does daft things without really knowing he/she has done anything wrong, or does something clearly different from today's typical driving, then the chances of a future accident somehow involving that driver would seem likely. That could apply to any age though.

When I say "today's typical driving", I would add that I was taught whilst learning donkey's years ago to "keep up with the flow of traffic". Perhaps "Know your car's brakes relative to other cars' brakes" might be a better line now.

OK, I take that back - I'd forgotten the full details of the post by the time I'd put that up... :o

I havent at all said i wasnt in the wrong yes i may have been alittle close but when coming off aroundabout getting up to speed along a dual carriage way! you do not except someone to just stop with no indication at all! .

Sorry, but someone could stop suddenly with no indication! He did it because he was lost, but suppose a pedestrian had suddenly stepped out?

I got shunted up the *** a month ago when I stopped suddenly before turning right when I saw a car coming the other way. The Rover 25 behind me didn't stop in time...................:eek:

He claimed it was my fault for stopping suddenly. I pointed out that he was driving too fast/close/not paying attention and that I could have stopped suddenly for a number of reasons. So he booggered off.

Final score was Octavia 1: Rover 0. He needed a new headlight, I need T-Cut to remove some metallic blue Rover paint from my bumper :D:D

I had a close call this morning. Me trying to turn left so watching traffic from the right for a gap (as you do), saw one coming up, prepares to put foot down and go for it and Lo and behold! There's a cyclist in front of me riding along in his merry way (quite quickly) on the wrong side of the road - right in front of me! There is a green-painted cycle lane after I'd turned left, but I'm not sure that means cyclists can ride on it in the wrong direction and cut across traffic turning out of a road mouth :shakehead:

Like I said. A close call. The cyclist was blinking lucky that I saw him in the blink of an eyelid. That reverts to another thing an instructor told me "Always look into the road in the direction you'll be going." Some of these things I learned by rote. Probably as well I did. Can't imagine what the cyclist was taught

Sorry for "sharing this" - just a rant cos bonkers.

Don't get me started on cyclists....

They can share our roads when they pay insurance and road tax. Until then they can F**k off!!

Abit harsh???? do you actual drive, I spend most of my time on the motorways and all you see is lorries tailgaiting, pulling into lanes when cars are already in it, the saying goes if you cant see my mirrors i cant see you, fair enough but if i am in my lane dont bloody come in it so you can nearly kill me and spend the next five minutes overtaking the lorry infront, or its white van men driving anywhere but where they should, oh and then you have the BMWs that seem to want to marry your rear number plate, I aint saying car driver are saints cos we aint but lorries are far bigger and when it does go wrong they are far more likely to walk away then the car driver, basically I hate driving in England its just rubbish full of people who dont want to give way, give a inch or give a sh!t for your well being. blimey what a rant. you wouldnt know I drive on the M25 everyday.
we know you are there we also know you will move,i like to look at the faces of the drivers to watch the varied stages of panic before they either brake or move out,i've never had one stand his ground in 10 years lol,its a boring job we gotta do somthing to keep us entertained,as for tailgating how many accidents of truck on truck do you see? Most accidents involving trucks are foriegners who have collected the car in the blindspot in the middle lane.:D

The rear wing of my Felly got clipped by a foriegn trucker.

The scariest part (which wasnt hearing the crucnch of the rear wing) was my Dad who was sleeping in the back, got woke up at the point of impact and started yelling at me.

@Oilburninut I have no quarrels with lorries overtaking its the morons behind who dont want to go to the outside lane.

They bomb it, then slow down behind the truck.

I can cruise along at 65, enter the 3rd lane safely (without just jumping willy nilly infront of faster traffic) overtake and then move back in.

A ban at 80 is a bit harsh, a retest, yes, but not ban.

My grandad is 84 and is a great driver, and i would like to think he has many a good driving years in front of him too.

I agree to as i have a friend who is 91 and still drives and he hates all the slow drivers around him as he is still very alert on the road and i feel very comfortable being in the car with him when he is driving.

He always tells me "Keep away from old men driving with flat caps on" He,s a legend!!
