Featured Replies

hi. i know this might sound stupid but i have just bought some infinty referance 6010's have got the old speaker off but i dont know how to go about wiring them up.

do i need some spade connectors and some crimpers? or can i just butcher the old block that the wires go into and fit them straight onto the speaker?

Doh! :orb_duh: too late cos ive butchered the connectors. lol. im just going to get some spade connectors 2morrow and nick the crimpers from work ;)

BTW the kit came with crossovers for an amp but i dont have an amp, so do i still need to fit these or is there no need?

im quite mechanically minded but i dont have a clue wen it comes to ICE! :o

The x overs need to be fitted to split the highs and lows to your mid and tweeters.

Have a look at the instructions before you blow your tweeters.

Into the X-overs them out to mids and tweeters. If you get what i mean.

HTH

Sorry going to Hijack your thread.

So I buy some of these speaker adapters from the bay, no butchering.

What speakers do I need to buy so I only replace the speakers and not tweeters.

David, you confused me, X, cross, and all that lot. (Congrats on the new addition to)

Anyone know of some direct replacements ???

Just been having a read, I think I need some speakers that have directional tweeters built in and disconnect the factory ones. God I'm think about ICE

Get a set of components they will sound much better, the infinitys are a straight swap for the OEM ones, and the tweeters fit behind the grills as well

Cross-over = X-over = same thing !!!

You wire them like like this.22461.attach

It's a bit rough, but it gives you an idea

You whip out your old door speakers, connect those adapters the wire off them to the x-overs, then out to each speaker

Hm only 1 place I can find the 6010cs speakers and they want 90notes for them..

May try something else ;)

Result, thanks - strange didnt come up when i searched ebay

Are coaxials rubbish ?

Are coaxials rubbish ?

Not particularly for rear fill, it's just components are better ;) more directional and you have comps already so you may as well stick with them.

thanks for ur help fatty, i fitted them today but ive only fitted the speakers and not the crossovers or tweeters. sounds alot better IMO but do i need to fit the other components? also if i run the original speaker wire to the crossover do i need to buy more wire to come out of the crossover and into the speaker?

also where is the best place to put the crossover unit?

Yes, because you got no highs in the front.

Tag on to the original wires in the door, from there go back into the car via the black rubber grommets in the door and under dash driverside put on X-over there and on the otherside put on behind/under the glove box. You will need extra cable as your original needs extending into the x-overs and back into the door and up to the tweeter behind the grills.

Does that make sense????

why not the Infinity Reference 6520CS? Would they not fit?

or these JBLs: Car Audio Direct - JBL GTO607c - Speakers

or even the Infinity REF6520scs, shallow mount.

I don't think either of those will fit tbh. The 6010's I have are shallow and those are a bit deeper, and it's a tight fit between the speaker and the in door panels.

Have the 6010 not been replaced by the 6520s then?

I have no-idea whatsoever :confused::confused:

Ok had a crack today, tweeters look no problem and are a straight swap including use of wire adapter.

Where to put the cross over box?!! There looks to be space behind the foam to slide it in but will need to be secured in some way. Other than the above suggestion in hiding it behind glove box with use of additional wiring (I take door card will also need to come off?) is there a easier way?

Cheers

not sure what you mean with: "There looks to be space behind the foam to slide it in"

The foam behind where the front speakers sit, there is the already a slit where the speaker wire comes out. I was thinking maybe of creating a bigger slit and fitting the cross over box behind this foam.

you could do so, or othewise behind the glove box. Or if you have a lot of time, remove the centre console and the driver's console, it is all empty there

Fitted today, piece of cake and the sound difference is massive - pretty chuffed.

I eventually decided to place behind the foam, just used stanley knife and increase slit and used heavy duty double sided tape to secure cross over box.

Definately recommend, thanks

I mounted my crossovers for my alpine components where the poly block was on the door card, whiped that off and screwed the crosssover on :) and wired it all up, all honky dory now :D
