Over 40mpg average in a petrol vrs

Featured Replies

I managed 42mpg on my way in this morning (70 miles)... :D

It was at 44mpg when I pulled off the motorway.

EDIT: Not bad for a 'gag guzzling' Ford ASBO.:D

I've never got over 40mpg in mine - quite regulalry see 39mpg but never got 40mpg

Its all to do with the way you drive, try doing 1st 3rd then 6th and keeping the revs between 2k and 2.5k. planning a head, if you see traffic slowing down in the distance let off the accelerator and roll up to it (lessens the needs for brakes too). also going down hills let off the accelorator and roll.

Jaysus I've never seen over 35mpg on a journey, even if I pushed it I reakon I still would never get over 40mpg.

Btw took 55litres to fill it the other day, I think it was running on fumes :)

The best I have managed is 42.7 :)

My Mk1 will do 40 on a run, which is perfectly acceptable :D

Max i've ever had out of my mk1 so far is just under 44..... constant 40mph all the way home :( god damn traffic.

Hi All,

My new vRS is breaking in nicely at 1500 miles..... and on the last 2 runs upto Scotland and back (mixture of A-road and motorway), i'm seeing 38mpg easily enough.

So when broken in properly and on cruise i reckon 40+mpg is possible for sure.
