Why no folding mirror option?

Featured Replies

I posted a question a few months ago regarding the possibility of ordering folding mirrors for an Octy. A lot of people were very interested but in the end Stu said it simply was not possible to do a group buy.

I noticed recently that folding mirrors are now standard in some quite basic Seat Leons and you can order folding mirrors for the Golf for £110. I wonder why Skoda seems so reluctant to offer folding mirrors. It can't be that difficult since all the parts are there is the VAG system. I was sure I would see this option in the new Superb brochure but I couldn't find it.

Any thoughts on why Skoda have not bothered with this option?

They don't have a say as it's a feature they don't get so that they can get others. With 4 brands using essentially the same parts they have to differentiate the cars some how.

I agree.

No other logical reason can justify the lack of this feature. We all know the extent to which VW can go based on our climatronic button mod.

Didnt someone in russia fit folding Golf mirrors to his VRS?

IIRC all the wiring is there, all that's needed is the mirrors. I think cost was quite high though. Talking nearly £1k (again IIRC).

Wasnt Stu watching a non-english forum where some people were attempting the mod?

This is still one I'd like to do so if anyone has found any more info since it was last discussed; please post up :)

Do they fold electrically?

mine fold by hand

Yep, its suuuuucccchhhh a big job to quickly push them by hand ....

Answer yes its by hand, its quicker than electric.

My wife's just bought a Golf with electric folding mirrors but they are something of a rip-off as they only fold to about 45 degrees and certainly not as flat as manually folding the Octavia's. They are also not automatic (i.e. fold in when the ignition is turned off). It would be quite good if they could be made to operate automatically.

The new Superb definitely does. It's configurable via the maxidot, and standard behaviour is to fold when the car is locked. Both the SE and Elegance get this option, but on the Elegance the mirrors also have memory setting and auto dimming.

Bagpuss.

Go to an alarm fitter, ask them to operate the door switch via a relay connected to the central locking. Job done :)

Hi sebulbus, are you saying that my mirrors will fold back when locking up?. Octy 55 plate 140 Elegance .

fortyfirs - are your mirrors actually electrically folding?

mine fold by hand

arh good old handjob :)

No, the answer was for the Golf with electric folding mirrors. They are a prerequisite. Adding the proper module will sense the central locking's electrical impulse and trigger the fold/unfold functions in a manner similar to operating the door switch on that car.
