Good post

Exactly, I may not be rich or poor, I drive the VRS, It brings a smile to my face, when beemers Alfa's etc tailgate and I leave them in sooty smoke :-)

Also, not bragging but I have been a driver for 44yrs and I can read the road also I know well the road I am on at the time

I enjoy watching my rear view mirror as the others find themselves sixhundred yards behind, gunning like hell to catch up, only to be lost again at the next feature :-)

I have never had so much fun as in my VRS, never had a car as capable before either as always company cars at bottom of the range stuff pug 206's Fiesta's Polo's

I did have a nice Ford Consul 365 in 82 top of the range, only it kept stopping due to the carb freezing up, and the only way I could start it again was to lift the air filter drop a screwdriver down to open the butterfly, start engine, rest a bag on the accelorator, remove screwdriver, replace air filter, shut bonnet and continue on my motorway journey six times a day

It was fun that was

Thinking about the door leaking issue on Fabia's, do you think that if I bought it from a main Skoda dealer it would be too much to ask for all the doors to be resealed as a precaution? Or am I being to cautious and looking for problems that haven't arisen yet?

You can ask for free!!!

I would go for the Fabia anyday. I drove the Ibiza, Golf and A3 before choosing the fabia.

In my eyes it was more fun to drive. And it stood out a bit more than the others.

No one expects a skoda to over take them.

Im in a pretty similar situation with insurance... im 19, but have no NCB yet, been on parents insurance. My insurance runs out in a month, and so going to take the plunge and get my own policy. For my car its £800 a year with Bell.. i get break down cover, courtacy car, loads of added extras, and only a £500 excess (AA wanted £1500 excess, having a laugh.!!).

If you want a modified car... go for Swinton Specialists.

If you have a standard car... go for Bell insurance.

Just shop around to find the best deal for you.!!

QE2...

hahaha... I wouldnt go that far.!

Think the handeling makes it a more challenging drive.

Which is more fun, and ultimatly will make you a better driver.

Totally agree. I'm not expecting Lotus Elise style handling as long as it OK I'm not too bothered. You change your driving style depending on the car.

I bought my furby vrs SE last May and have been extremely happy with it. Very good acceleration & low consumption plus insurance not too expensive. My 23 year old son, who passed his test at 18 but hadn't driven since, decided to buy a car last September. Initially he wanted a Citroen C2 1.6 petrol and we went for a test drive. Both he and I hated the Citroen - very peaky engine and abysmal driving position. There was an Ibiza FR for sale and I suggested he tried that as I knew it was the same engine and power output as my furby. Needless to say he loved it and after shopping aroung bought a 55 reg one in immaculate condition with 11k on the clock from a main dealer at £9600.

10 months on and he still loves the car. Having driven both regularly I totally agree with previous comments regarding the suspension - it is very hard and I much prefer the furby's softer setup. Looks wise, I must admit to preferring the Seat. My son's car had an optional extra package wich included cruise plus chrome instrument mountings and bizzarely a silver grey surround around the driver position. This annoys me as it reflects in the windscreen which I personally find annoying (although it doesn't bother my son at all!) The car is 3 door but this isn't a problem for him as he rarely has more than one passenger.

You asked about insurance. When my son was looking for quotes the cheapest online quote was about £1100 (Manchester postcode and parked on drive.) I suggested he got quotes including me as a named driver (age 55 with clean licence) to see if it made any difference and we found that the cheapest quote dropped to just under £900!

Overall I would suggest you go for the Ibiza as it has a younger image, looks and drives well and I think at 19 you probably won't be bothered by the hard ride. That said, you'd not be dissapointed with the vrs either.

Good luck!
