Odd and Expensive Tyre Wear

Featured Replies

Has anyone had odd tyre wear on the rear tyres, I drive a VRS TFSI and have had 2 sets of tyre on the rear now, going out of shape leading to a wurring noise not that dissimilar to a wheel bearing noice.

I have today had 2 new tyres fitted to the front that have warn out in the middle despite running them at around 29 psi (Goodyear F1 DSG) 10,3000 miles and at the same time the fitter pointed out that the rears (Goodyear F1 DSG) with 6mm of tread are all out of shape.

When you spin the rear wheel and hover your hand over the surface it is

all over the place, up and down like a rollercoaster, hence the noise.

The fitter thinks it is likely to be a rear suspension problem as this is the second set to go the same way. I have had Michelin Pilot Exacto put on the rears today and don’t want them to go the same way, any ideas would be welcome!!

my mate has the same car and the tyre fitter told him he had three other vrs with the same odd tyre wear on the back making the same noise maybe you a should get in touch with skoda ?

hi just had to replace rear set of tyres due to going out of shape on inner walls approx a week ago. called at dealers first they had heard of problem.

they told me needed to get it check by laser lignment, i`ve asked if its a manufacture problem with the reponse on ere they said, but if i`ve still got the tyres the would send them to dunlop, i`ve no tyres left at fitters.

but will the laser lignment sort the problem for good

cheers

Getting rid of the Dunlops should sort the problem.

I have this very problem. They told me it was the tyres at fault. The brand new Michelins that were fitted from new. I have now swapped them to the front, It's horrible!

When I get back to the UK I will take it in again to the stealers, its not right at all.

Getting rid of the Dunlops should sort the problem.

I got 18k out of a set of Dunlops, but only 10k ish out of a set of Eagle F1's, dunno what to try now

I don't know which ones but I suspect F1 GSD3's. Mine only lasted around 10k.

I will be putting Eagle F1 Asymetrics back on mine when the time comes.

Still got the rears on from over 15k with quite a bit left, the fronts didn't last quite as well.

Yea GSD3's :o

Have you used Eagle F1 Asymetrics before and how were they?

The Asymetrics are very good. They will be my tyre of choice unless my numbers come up and I buy some Michelin PS2's.

Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 should be good for 18 - 20,000 OR Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas (better in the wet) ought to be good for 12 - 15,000. The Ultrac Sessantas are cheaper but on a £ per mile basis they actually cost the same.

A further alternative would be Michelin Pilot Sport; about 15 - 18,000 but about the same price as the Exaltos.

Confused?

I personally don't rate the Asymmetrics, I have them on the Disastra along with a pair of the old model Ultrac. I'm pretty sure my next tyres will be Ultrac Sessentia. The Ultracs are 18k on the front and still 2.5mm tread left, the Asymmetrics were on the front for 2k and then moved to the back for 6k and are down to 4mm. :(

Had the misfortune of catching one of my rear rally flapz on a kerb and damn near ripped it off last night....mad.

But in a way gald it did, now noticed the rear tyre wear. Had some heel and toe wear on the tread blocks as mentioned above but noticed today more wear on the inside edge than I thought. So off to get a full 4 wheel alignment done and then two new tyres.....oh joy. i can see some OT coming up now.

Now do I go for some of the same tyres now that the geometry will be right, or should I push the boat out a little and opt for some Falken 452's.

How do the Falkens wear, good or bad?

Currently running Dunlop SP Sport 9000.

Gonna try my local fitter to see what they have, Falkens are tempting.
