cant afford another vrs? unfortunatly

What is your budget?

There are some good ones kicking about cheap. Just seen this one on ebay (300243077622) that used to be mine but I dont know what the reserve is.

My other half had a smaller engined one (a 1.2 I think) and it was horrible. Absolutely horrible.

pd100 with high miles is a bargain right now. :) And having 100k+ on a TDI is no worries when it comes to reliability. They make good progress - remap to vRS power levels in stock form. Diesel = grunt & economy.

Diesel = grunt & economy.

No offence... but with Diesel now 13p per litre more than unleaded (and set to rise further). I'm not so sure it's the economical option it once was.

13p = 10% more. Pretty sure the combined economy of a pd100 will be more than 10% better than the combined economy of a similarly powered petrol, eg the 1.4 16v engine. :)

Also, pd100 post March 2001 is a £120 (£110 next year) roadtax

You could wax lyrical about the difference in fuel costs all day and this is a debate that has happened a few times.

Having worked out the economics...

If your buying new and doing less than 25k a year then your better off getting a petrol over about 3 years, anymore and the diesel is better as a rule of thumb.

If your buying secondhand it will depend on the deal you get. I should imagine that at that age and mileage the diesel will be a lot better value despite the higher cost of fuel if your using for longer runs. If your only using for quick trips to the shops etc and urban work get a petrol because you won't use the extra economy of the diesel

I have the 1.9Tdi 100 PD Estate. It's my first 'small' car for years. I think for performance, economy and comfort you'll be hard pressed to beat one. Many smaller cars are not good on the motorway for example. You'll find this TDi very capable wherever you drive.

Just found my sister one about a month ago, this was a 2001 y reg tdi 100. air con 37k miles silver and completly imaculate for either 2500 or 2700 can't quite remember but it's around that.

great little car and averages 48 mpg and it mostly does country driving  i actualy even jump in that sometimes as it's so much smoother than my own :o

thanks for all replys. i thought the pd100 would come out tops. so should i be looking for cars built after march 2001. she likes red cars but does the red fabias fade in colour or is it alright.

cheers

red depens on how it's been looked after.....it's not as bad as it used to be on the old school fiesta's though

Or Polos/Golfs. Tornado Pink anyone?

I had a tornado red 1998 Ibiza, and looked after, it doesn't fade.

Only if you want to save £70 ish on road tax. If a bargain one on an X plate comes up, then no reason why you shouldn't go for it (the price may be lower due to it being higher road tax ;))

I've a 1.9tdi 100bph exellent 56-63mph, depends on what mileage shes gonna do.

If the cars going to spend most of its time trundling around town then the bigger engine isn't going to worth it.

If its a mix of town and the the odd motorway then the diesel wil come into its own.

Economy wise it does all depend on how its driven.

Let her test drive petrol and diesel ones to see what she prefers and then let her see if she can afford it.

The 1.4 16v is an excellent engine. perky and economical

The 1.2 12v is a decent unit too with a distinctive 3 cyl thrum.

I don't know much about the TDIs to really comment but they are a solid unit. My cousins Golf TDI just had a 100k service and still going for more :D

Alternativley get her a Felicia!!

i am looking for a new car for my girlfriend

No, you understood fine :)

Some people (like me :)) just don't like the way diesels drive!

she drives a diesel know so she is used to them

Fair enough then :)

my company wagon is a Fabia Ambiente Estate TDI, 100hp.

gets my vote, nothing wrong with these cars! feels like a limo (albiet slower - and noticably slower) compared to my vRS.

smooth and refined, won't blow up, can't think of much more I need to drive 800 miles a week in at work. cruise would be nice but hey, can't have it all. AC is ice cold (55 plate, 45k miles) radio is decent, seats are great, boot is huge. handles ok, wheeltrims are ramped to *** though, not guilty - the last owner did that.

it doesn't even look crap!

Sounds like a good swap, got any pics?

Damn- beat me to it.
