The mongrel gets Water Methanol injection fitted!

Featured Replies

And in some good time as well considering the fabrication work that was needed to get it sorted. PS Gary - no battery to get in the way. ;)

Playing around with the gear to see how it could all fit together

DSCN2205.jpg

After decisions were taken some metal was sourced off a big sheet of steel. :D

DSCN2206.jpg

This was the gap it all had to go in to. Looks big, but that BMC CDA needs to go in there as well, along with the air intake pipe

DSCN2208.jpg

Air intake pipe laid in to see where room had to be made, and where room could be taken. The first "extra" bit of metal (the rusty looking bit) was tacked on for good measure.

DSCN2209.jpg

The newly formed bracket was blobbed together

DSCN2210.jpg

and then once the trial fit was done, it was welded up good and proper

DSCN2212.jpg

Of course, me being me, I couldn't leave this bracket untouched. So out came a well shaken spraycan of Skoda diamond silver.

DSCN2213.jpg

Naturally I got a little carried away and did the new reservoir cap as well in silver (every other cap in my engine bay is also colour coded)

DSCN2214.jpg

Blank switch butchered a little to fit the arming switch. :)

Bracket is finished being painted (nothing too fancy, just 2 x silver, 1 x lacquer)

Random classic in the garage forecourt. Lancia Monte Carlo - Rear Engine, RWD.

DSCN2217.jpg

As usual with my mods, glovebox needs to come out to access my "chasm" hole into the engine bay.

Bracket just before being fitted into the car

Bottle is attached to the bracket, that flat area is for the pump

DSCN2220.jpg

Bottle finished

DSCN2221.jpg

Pump offered up. Temporarily using mdf under the bracket to use the supplied screws. Long run going to get narrow bolts to attach it.

DSCN2222.jpg

No I didn't fill it up with fanta! :P

DSCN2223.jpg

Pretty much all hoses connected up and all wiring completed. :)

DSCN2224.jpg

The control unit, tucked away a bit, but accessible for tweaking in the future

DSCN2225.jpg

Close up of the pump.

DSCN2226.jpg

The new nozzle for the water (red one) and the blue one was already there, for the nitrous

DSCN2227.jpg

Well, that's about it. Just going to test it again tonight as there were a couple of minor leaks, probably due to the goop supplied to lock the threads. All being well, all I need now is some damn methanol! Only got water in there!

You're a nutter :)

You're a nutter :)

yes but a one-in-a-million nutter!!

Bl**dy brilliant Jase - you have to let us know what meth/water mix works best with your setup.

well done!

Bas

Scotchlocks and lumpy paint, good to see your keeping your standards up :P

Look forward to hearing the results

[pedant]P.S the Montecarlo is Mid Engined, but looks cracking anyway :P [/pedant]

I saw an engine in the boot so assumed it was rear engined - It definitely wasn't under the bonnet anyway. :D

Is this what the ex jabba one had fitting on it a while back ?excuse me for being stupid but is this just another form of nitros ?

It's nearly rear :P

Mid Engined: 260px-En_mr001_english.png

Rear engined almost hangs off the back like a 136.

I'm off to stop being pedantic now :D :P

the question being how the hell am i gonna get my kit fitted?

Might have to re locate the battery looking at that:O

The kit said you can mount the reservoir in the boot, but it's not ideal to have to pipe the water all the way down the car. Plus you still need to stick that pump somewhere too.

Removing the battery was fairly easy anyway. :o

i'm off to look at it,might be a job for tommorow(as working on your car full of cider is never a good plan)will have to see what i've got in the shed:D

Cut a hole in your bonnet and have it sticking up through that like that rally slag of a Fabia does with it's turbo. :D:rofl:

so it looks like i have a huge washer reservoir,a look that could catch on i believe:D

Nice and very tidy mod that providing it works

I'd be tempted to put it all in the back anyhow, far to much weight over the front axle as it is.

Scotchlocks in the engine bay, class.

I don't really understand what's happening but well done, Jase!

I don't really understand what's happening but well done, Jase!

Me either, but I'm sure it's all done in the name of science. :D

Science... and more power, less heat, less soot, more advanced timing, less exhaust temp's, i could go on. lol.

Is looking good tho mate.

Wil be getting my 'Devils Own' kit soon. Cant wait to book into Derv Dr, will be the best virgin remap ever.

From standard, to Water injection, FMIC, 19 row fuel cooler, VT2 turbo (i think), No cat, straight through exhaust... gona be fun.

Want to do as much as poss (bar exhaust) before going to get my turbo and remap.

A little patiance is required on my behalf tho, as im not happy driving roung 130horses, when it could be 220!!!

I thought Jason had been a little quiet with his mods.... Good Job :D

Jase, not wanting to sound thick but what is a water methanol injection? whats it do and what is the point of it?:)

Looks fantastic, dont think i'll fit one to mine as its only a 1.4

cheers, but why not just mix methenol striaght into the fuel tank then?

cheers, but why not just mix methenol striaght into the fuel tank then?

I should think that the two main reasons are:

a) The fuel and the alcohol may separate

B) There would not be the level of control quantity wise as there is when injecting it.

Also wouldnt increase enough with boost.

And the further away from the cylinders, the better. (within reason, and to all the boffins that are going to comment on it, i know direct injuction is best, but not as easy to describe... also, dont really need direct injection on anything less than 3.0L and 50psi!!). Go to the 'Devils Own' and have a read of there install guide.
