vRS vs Bike - putting performance threads to rest

Featured Replies

Regarding the attitude of bikers, I'd say that the majority of them were far more aware and alert/involved with driving than most car drivers. A lot of people say that bike riders make excellent car drivers :)

I do actually own a R34 GTR thankyou.and had it since new(51 reg)75K miles.Check the pictures in the Photography section.http://briskoda.net/photography-photoshop/camera-test-engine-car-shot/117986/

Yes i can perfectly afford to run it and maintain it to a high standard.I can achieve 0-60 in less than 5.2secs thanks and no its not stock either.

Case closed.I don,t want to read anymore thanks.

think his coment was aimed at me,and again lack of homework makes his statement look a little silly to those in the know,a little history here,my last car was a 400bhp skyline and i would still have it had i not picked up 9 points in three days, and even i wasn't going to fork out 6k to insure it,so no dreaming here either, and as for bikes well lets just say i've ridden more than my fair share

I've never seen "cars move to one side akin to parting the waves for a fast moving bike", however about 2 weeks ago on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon I attended the scene of an RTC where a guy on his new Ninja had tried to overtake a slower moving VW Polo on a bend doing about 80. He hit a bus coming the opposite way. Result. One written off bus, one written off (completely destroyed) bike, one shocked (but alive) bus driver, fifteen shocked (but alive) bus passengers, one instantly dead biker. There was bits of his bike strewn about 200 metres along the road where they had slid under and around the bus still doing 80. You would not believe the damage that this bike had done to the bus - most of the dashboard and even the steering wheel of the bus were lying in the road. The driver of the Polo told me that the biker didn't even have time to brake and he hit that bus like a fu*kin cruise missile. When you see the aftermath of something like that it puts in perspective the fact that these sort of threads are getting pretty old. When you've got something that can propel you from 0-100 in 6 seconds or so I'd imagine it's quite easy to become complacent about the dangers. I'm sure most bikers are safe, but I'd also bet that this poor guy probably thought he'd take his new bike out for a spin on such a gorgeous day - I bet the thought never crossed his mind that he might not make it home to his mum.

i read the same post on every car forum im on lol.

At the end of the day, each to there own. Some like cars, some like bikes, and some like me, love both. I`ll say one thing though, yegnold hit the nail on the head. I`v had a few mates get bikes recently, and everyone has all said that there better car drivers for it. I was chugging along in traffic and moved over about 4 times for bikes filtering, and the first 2 times my non riding mate was askin what i was doing. Thats obviously just one example.

Don,t blank out your words lets see it!!

I just think bikes are lethal weapons and can kill you easily especially on todays roads.I should know i had one and was nearly killed by a drunk driver many years ago. That was enough for me.

I am not blanking out words, the forum is, it makes it any easier I said

C o c k

How nearly is nearly killed? do you still walk across the road? a drunk driver may come round and take you out that way? Do you ever max out the skyline? would you walk away if it all went pair shaped? do you fly etc etc?

In your case the bike was not the lethal weapon, I would have said it was the car driver.

I have had a couple of bad experiences, in my old job, and on my bike. I still ride whenever possible and would have loved to carry on with my old job but the quacks said no.

This sort of thread normally crops up once a year, shortly followed by a "mods are crap thread" or similar. Like I said above it's all horses for courses and nobody should be judgemental about anyone else because of their preferred mode of transport.

I think using the term "lethal weapon" is correct for a bike and a car also if its in the wrong hands.

We can all die if we drive like a **** as Fluffmeister put it.But we could rant all day long about this so whats the point?

We all love speed who doesn,t? but we must be safe and survive too no matter what you drive/ride.

i beat a kawasaki ninja (636) in my vrs, granted the bike got me on a straight but as soon as we got to a bend, he soon got lost in my rear view :D

But don't forget, wether it's cars, bikes, lawnmowers, RC cars whatever, the skill of the person behind the wheel / bars is probably worth 100BHP.

fwiw I blitzed a new Ducati 999s at Oulton 2 years ago on my VOR, a single cylinder 60bhp ditchpump, the 999 turned up on slicks with tyrewarmers and an old boy in ganz neu Arlen Ness kangeroo skin leathers.

He was a bit like the American Army, all the gear and no idea.

Let's just put it to bed folks?

I heard that a fabia vrs is a lot slower than an octavia vrs if both are standard

EFA. Thank you :D:D

Now you are being a bit of a **** to be honest.

It's all horses for courses, some of the people commenting on bikes have never ridden one, let alone a decent modern bike. Some of the people commenting on cars have perhaps never been in a real high performance car to put that into perspective.

As a biker and car driver I would more than agree that you can have a lot of fun in a car but for me, not as much as I can on a bike. I am better on a bike than I am in the car when it comes to "spirited" riding / driving.

The business about "driving" a car and just "riding" a bike does not stack up, on a well set up bike (as you can with a well set up car) you can feel every ripple in the road surface, feel the amount of grip from the front and back end and a set of well toasted knee sliders is a thing of beauty.

I had a stock GSXR1000 K5, bone stock, cost me £6.5k new and it with my 6'1" 18 stone frame would run sub 11's, which is not to shabby in the bangs for bucks stakes.

So ... why not just leave it, pure car drivers are never going to be convinced, bikers are never going to be convinced so nobody wins.

At last..........wise words.

Well put Mr Fluff

Lance (keen car driver, but much prefers biking)

As for some of the rest of you...................I reckon Tony Foster is putting more bait on his hook as I type.

Perhaps some of you could have directed your anger at him rather than bikers in general. Shame on some of you with the spiteful responses.

very true, and it was my mate i got away from, he's not long passed his test so still getting learning the bike and thankfully didnt do anything as stupid as to try keep up.

a bike is only as fast as you push it and if sensible you'll never push it past your limits. if you get it wrong in a car you may walk away but if you get it wrong on a bike (pushing too hard for your capabilities) chances are you'll never walk again.
