Do they Still do them? Anybody got one? never ever seen one, Ever!

We have one customer with one.

Bit of an odd ball really quite a heavy lump and with 115bhp it isnt a road rocket.

Quite a old design too. from the mk2 golf era? or was it mk3?

IIRC recently Seat changed from using the 1.4 16v 100bhp lump to the 2.0l lump in their ibiza sport.. purely a marketing scam as the 1.4 is actually faster, cheaper to run and generally better!.

Isn't it the old 8valve Golf Gti lump? Or very similar...

Yeah basically the MK3 one.

Also used int he MK4, its not fast but strong and pretty reliable.

Drove one recently in an Octavia, and I still like it - quite a lot, actually. I agree it's no road burner but it's strong, has punch and feels torquey, precisely because of those 8 valves.

I've driven modern 16-valve engines with bigger hp - some even much bigger - that felt weak in the lower rev range and really needed some revving to get some performance out of them, upping the real-life fuel consumption in the process, making them fuel-efficient on paper only. So I'd rather have the old engine that makes you feel all its 115 hp in the rev range that matters instead of the state-of-the-art engine that will have you puzzled at its nominal output of 140 hp.

IMO the 2.0 8v needs to be judged for what it is - a relaxed and yet lively drive.

I'd agree, in the MK3 Golf if I had to drive over a distance id prefer the 8v to the 16v as they were alot better for cruising. The 16v was faster but you had to work it to get the best out of it.

i found my 2.0 alot more punchy than my old 1.4 16v 100bhp one, its alot easier to drive on the motorway, and pulls alright in 5th from 20 up great in traffic jams:)

the 2.0 is basically the same as the mk3 golf gti engine except it has a crossflow cylinder head

and it's 2.0 not 1.8...

the engine is, as has been said, virtually the same as was in the Mk3 Golf GTI 8v, Vento 2.0 GL, Passat 2.0 GL, Ibiza GTI 8v, Mk4 2.0 GTI, Bora 2.0 Highline plus a few others, probably
