Rollbar knocking after bush squeak 'fix' - damage???

Featured Replies

Gents,

Will an incorrectly repaired anti-roll bar setup (new bushes, NO new linkages) cause any additional damage (the roll bar is knocking)?

I had squeaking offside front suspension, which I thought I'd get my dealer to repair under warranty (got < 4K left  ). Anyway, it seems that they only did half a job and replaced only the bush[es] and not the roll bar 'linkage'. To cut a long story short, my 2 year old Octavia vRS now sounds like an old Nissan and is knocking over normal side streets, not to mention of speed humps (it's mighty embarrassing).

They're not fixing it until Thursday next week, I'll have done at least 500 motorway miles by then, will this cause any more damage?

Thanks

Big Rich

Shouldnt cause any damage.

But are they sure its a link and not something left loose? Did they replace the subframe bolts when they took it down? I wouldnt be happy with a week wait it could be your safety at risk.

You're not wrong Ross (and thanks). I'm not too sure exactly what they did (I was lead to believe they changed the bush[es]), but you're not wrong about the wait, I went back a couple of days back to see if they could sort it out while I waited. No Luck, they have to order in some parts, so still next Thursday :(.

What worries me now is that they might not repair all the issues and, yep, is it safe to do another 300 miles as it is?

Thanks man :D

Did they have another look at it then since the original work was done, if so then OK they have deemed it safe so dont worry too much.

Was a bit concerned they had fobbed you off without taking a look to check thier work over thats all. Could have looked very silly if you had gone elsewhere.

No, they didn't look, and I might just take it to another Skoda Garage on monday. I'm worried that I'm doing damage to the car and also that they didn't fixed it all as you have suggested.

What I can't really understand is, if they replaced the bush, why is the roll bar now loose?

Well i have the exact same problem and the dealer replaced the bushes.

The squeak came back after a few days and the car is now booked in next Thursday to get a new Roll Bar!!!

The mechanic i was talking to said this problem was very common on the early Fabias but said he hasnt heard of this being common on Octys! He should read this forum!

Quick question. I'm assuming this is the same problem that is plaguing my Octavia ie skeaking/groaning from front suspension especially when travelling slowly over speed bumps. My (non-Skoda) garage told me it was the 'anti roll bar drop links' They told me to get it fixed under warranty and that it was a common VAG fault but that a revised part was now available as fitted to new Boras. Does this make sense?

Sorry if this is the same thing as posted in the other squeaky threads but the terminology used throws me a little.

MY car has had 'knocking' noises for 2 1/2 years!

Let me know what it is can you so i can go and wallop my dealer over the head with it!

On the MK4 Golf and Leon (same set up as Octavia) the squeaking was usually caused by the anti roll bar bush. The bush grips onto the bar and as it turns it squeaks. Can be remidied by removing the bush and using a rubber grease on the internal diameter of the bush, this allows the bar to turn in it. There is a modified bush that has a different shape that stops this, but I allways use the grease anyhow.

Dave, that's your brain rattling around inside your head :D

That sounds very similar to what my garage originally said to me. When I had to check the wording to book in at the Skoda garage someone else came out with the 'anti roll bar drop links' bit. Are they one and the same?

Nope

The anti roll bar bushes hold the anti roll bar to the subframe.

The drop links attatch the anti roll bar to the lower arms.

Ross,

Can you fix my car? :(

Where abouts are you?

Geoff - are you implying i have a brain?
