Just decided to remove a panel from my car....

Well, you can probably imagine what I have planned for this and I'll get some shots once this small rainshower has passed over. :) It's going silver baby, yeah! :D

Martin - I may well do that. :D

Joel - That's not just polished, that's a full on cut-back, re-prime, and chrome coating. :D

And base coat of hammerite straight to rust. Going to let that dry and grab some lunch now.

Given it a first brief coat of diamond silver. Think it's going to take at least 3 coats to get even coverage. Have already convinced myself it won't be perfect, but will be hell of an improvement on its prior appearance.

And the award for most colour coded car ever goes too.....

Jason!

Good idea Jas. If the finsh is good will look smart.

Well, used up an entire can of paint. Now in the lacquering process, but a threatening looking cloud has meant I've had to put the panel under a trailer on the drive to keep it dry if it rains. Damnit, I'm sure hoping it doesn't rain as that will totally ruin the finish (even more than my efforts at painting ;))

More showers threatening now, so drying is having to be done in the back of my car to ensure it stays spot free.

Also given the bolts going in a gentle coat of black magic on the head to provide some contrast.

what will you be colour coding next?

looks a good idea tho:thumbup:

Used up all my paint now though.

Well, I need to do the drivers side wingmirror black bits as I've done the passenger side ages ago, so they don't match.

After that, there's not much left. Was eyeing up the N75 box as a potential candidate.

Casual glimpse of the RR graph there ;)

That was a casual error. :D I was at a local carshow last weekend and I guess that's been lying around the back of the car since. I really need to hoover it out properly too.

looks great that mate, sorry to sound daft but whats that big long chrome pipe for lol

That's my ally post FMIC to engine bit. :) Unlike other systems, mine comes out the top and through the engine bay to the inlet manifold. :)

It's fitted back now but am letting it dry 100% overnight, and will get pics tomorrow. The little bit of black magic on the boltheads made them look much better.

How easy was it to remove the panel, thinking of doing it to my sport.

I am wanting a black and red contrast for the interior and was wondering what the engine bay would look as the same..Plus what yopu use to paint the engine block? Top job mate

gonna look killer tbh.

What does the panel weigh, and does it contribute a lot to ridgidity/strength? (thinking - leave it out - weight saving)

it does look nice jase, how about the air caps are they colour coded yet?::thumbup:

I'm no expert, but isn't the weight unimportant if you can't keep the bonnet shut?

air caps? You mean dustcaps? Not touching those. :)

Yeah, Basil - The bonnet catch attaches to this item via 4 sturdy torx bolts so the option to remove it is not there. :D

Will get a couple of pics later as I'm going out to check on the water level in the methanol system :)

Well, here's the final result as it stands. The finish is by no means shiny shiny perfect but it's a lot better than the matt black. As one shot of the end shows, the colour is not a perfect match for the wing colour, but that's probably down to age/new paint. The black paint on the bolts does give it nice contrast too.

Well, as my car is not technically a vRS it's one of the few things I have done to try and distinguish it. :)
