Badgeless RS grill

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Here is picture of the badge-less Milotec grill that I fitted to my RS before removing it. As you can see from the picture its not a very good fit and apart from that I didn't like the way it looked (looks much better on the website than in the flesh). It has been replaced with original grill.

It looks more like a grill-less badge to me! Do I need to get the prescription for my glasses checked? :D

Sorry........

The surround looks too big I think...... Was it easy to take the original one off?

I was thinking about the middle one:

I reckon it would look good on a black car - maybe coloured silver it would look good on a silver car too? A sort of mesh effect?

Yea very straight forward to remove, used a small allen key to remove the screws took five minutes......

Mesh grille would be nice, but what's the point of buying a Skoda and then pulling the badges off? :D

Every time i get a spare weekend, I keep debating whether or not to buy a second OE grill. Remove the skoda and V badge. Mask off the central fins and spray the chrome surround body coloured (black). Then replace the Skoda and V badge. I think this might look pretty good. Jaguar do a similar thing with their X-Type grills i think :). If it looks cat then I will revert to standard.

P.S I seem to remeber Elisesport saying that his Milotec WRC spoiler was a pig to fit and get sitting right.

No point what so ever !

The brother in law said he thought mine looked like a BMW from the front, if he wasnt married to my sister i'd have smacked him one !! :D

BMW indeed.

I must admit that I did miss other car owners (Skodas included) knowing that it was (1) a Skoda and (2) an RS that I was driving.

As I have said I have put back the orginal grill to its rightfull place and shall wear my Skoda badge with pride!!!!

..or do what the insecure guy with the Octavia did and replace all the exterior badges with VW ones.

I've actually thought (in one of my more lunatic moments) of buying one round VW badge and sawing it vertically down the middle so front and rear its half-Skoda half-VW.

Then I thought nah, I want people to be confused just because its a fast Skoda and not give them an excuse to say "oh well, it only out-accelerated me because it had a VW engine"

Pass the pills :moodswing

I wish they did a MASSIVE Skoda badge, like the same size as you get on Mercs.

Seriously though, the standard grille looks a bit plain, almost to the point of making the front look like a Rover. I had to resist the urge to swear at my Grandad when he suggested that's what my delightful vRS looked like.

A new grille would look nice, like the WRC one. Does anyone do such a grille?

Rob

The answer to your footnote is to remap the vRS :drive:

No point in getting a new computer because it will always be out of date. :nono:

Hope that helps in the decision-making process.

My sig is actually out of date... I spent the cash on a computer, and I'm not regretting it.

My alloys came with plastic VW inserts in them, and I VERY nearly left them in when I got them fitted to the car. After much reasoning with myself, and self-abuse (not that!!), I saw sense and managed to order some chrome effect inserts from Skoda for

They look like the Audi A4 'Competition' that I had once on my 110 TDi Quattro.

Very elegant design IMHO and they are easy to clean !

VERY easy to clean - Just a hosepipe and a rag and my hand can get through the spokes and clean the entire inside - only a little bit tight around the brake callipers - but then I can just roll the car a half-turn down the drive and get better access. I've never seen alloys very similar to mine - Dad's old A4 had none at all so cannot compare with that - The odd new Golf is the only car I've had to double-take on the wheels to check they're not like mine (Ausrtralia is the only place I've confirmed my alloys reside, so far)

From the pic , it looks as though the Skoda badges were meant to be there , a very factory looking set up indeed! Also im so jealous of your easy clean wheel design , you should try keeping the RS alloys clean!

You havent seen the rear boot badge on a Superb then?

Definately on the large side.

Cheers

I think if I had some bast**d to clean alloys, I think I'd invest in a high pressure washer, which could do the job if done regularly. I had a go at cleaning the inside of the old steels at the weekend, and the amount of brake dust & **** that came off them was astounding. Even the current wheels need cleaning at least once a week. Anyone know why so much brake dust comes off my brakes. I sometimes clean my Dad's Honda too, but his alloys don't seem to cack up as quick as mine. Maybe its one of those Skoda ideosyncracies? (I'm not sure what that even means, let alone how its spelt?) I'm worried I'm coming out with big words like that at 9am on a workday... :D

Jason - do you know what diameter the inserts are? I wonder if they would fit in mine and replace the tacky and scuffed Radius ones......

They look pretty similar to those in the photo. I have some lovely black plastic tatty looking VW inserts if you want them? ;)

I "think" they're pretty universal, but I'm not sure. Can you get any ideas from looking at the wheel close up on my site? I must admit I didn't know they'd fit my wheels, so I walked into my Skoda dealer with one of my alloys under my arm (with VW badge :D) and got the parts dept to open a packet so I could offer an insert up to the new wheel. Luckily they fitted pretty well - and were quite cheap.

I'll take one of mine out and measure it - can you do the same with one of yours or one of the VW ones?

TIA

ahem, I can when I get home tonight if you want. unfortunately I haven't got them at work. As a guess i would say its about 7cm across. What I'll do is go out and measure the face of the current inserts (I do have my car here at least) and maybe that'll give you an idea - I suppose you really want to know the dimensions of the internal bits that clip into the alloy? - I can't really help there as I'd need to remove the wheel... :) I'll nip out to the car in a little while. Cheers

PS: are you absolutely, positively, definitely sure you don't want the VW inserts? :D

Thanks mate. And no thanks on the VW front :D I went out and looked at mine and chipped a bit more off the edge of one trying to prise it out - no joy. Will pop a wheel off tomorrow and check it out. Maybe I can go into the dealer and ask to see a catalog or something - I don't think they keep any parts in stock :(
