Retro fitting Tyre Pressure Monitor

Featured Replies

Looking at the web link for the A3 it looks like fitting the TPM reset switch, hooking it up to the ABS controller and then enabling the relevant bit in VAG COM.

I'd be interested to know if it still worked on cars with ASR rather than ESP, the Skoda documentation says it is part of the ESP system, so if your car only has ASR then presumably it wouldn't have the right hardware?

I think this is why there is a part number check on the ABS controller as only some controllers have the relevant hardware support, maybe someone on here with more in depth technical knowledge can answer that one.

Also looking at the Audi web page the switch looks different to the one on the skoda dash so it would be a different part#.

Some good info there guys - Who's first??

I have not found it worth having TBH, after so many false alarms :(

I know I already have it ($345 factory option), but what is the retrofit cost for any briskys interested Stu?

I wouldn't know to be honest, I guess about £10 of wires and connectors and the price of the button so in the grand scheme of things a pretty cheap DIY.

I dare say with a little research it could be made a little neater too.

There are two available setups -

Tyre pressure monitor, only for vehicles with ABS with EDL and TCS/ ESP

Tyre pressure monitor, only for vehicles with ABS with TCS

Don't take this as gospel but here is some preliminary info for the Octy II - The use of which is entirely at your own risk.

ABS with TCS

12v (Fuse 2 5A) is connected via the switch plug T6o Pin 4 and then Pin 6 to plug T26a Pin 7 on the ABS controller

Pins 2 and 3 on the switch are illumination.

12v (Fuse 2 5A) is connected to plug T26a Pin 20 on the ABS controller (Black & Grey) - Probably already resident.

ABS with EDL TCS/ESP

12v (Fuse 2 5A) is connected via the switch plug T6o Pin 4 and then Pin 6 to plug T47a Pin 27 on the ABS controller

Pins 2 and 3 on the switch are illumination.

If you have a TCS Button adjacent to the TPM button then the easiest place to pick up your 12v fuse 2 supply to the TPM Button is plug T6a pin 4 on the TCS Button as this is the same supply - Handy eh :D

Ditto for the switch illumination - tap into the TCS Button pin 6 (ground) and connect it to pin 2 on the TPM Button and connect TCS Button pin 3 (supply) to pin 3 on the TPM button.

That's about it as far as I can see, looks like most of the other wiring is there.

That's how it was done on a another guide I saw somewhere (maybe in VWVORTEX forums, not sure).

Kufatec was selling a retrofit kit for the TPM system. It had all the cabling etc. and for additional price you could buy the switch also. Sadly the switch was specifically for GOLF V, TOURAN and JETTA only. But the wiring should be the same.

And it wasn't even very expensive..... Sadly I couldn't find it on Kufatec's site anymore.

Your not coming up to the Midlands in the near future are you?
 - You boy's are on your own with this one.

Part number for the button is 1Z0 927 127 A 3X1

The Plug for the TPM Button is 4D0 971 636 B. Wires for this plug are 000 979 009.

Plug looks to be the same as the Golf kit above so if it were me I'd buy that.

I'm looking at the picture trying to work out the connections, the top one is obviously to the ABS unit, I'm guessing the fitted (3 pin?) plug would house the two cables used for the switch illumination on the TCS switch and then two of the remaining flying leads will feed that back into the TCS switch and that leaves one more which I can only assume is the 12v feed to the ABS via the switch, again taken from the TCS switch.

I would say using that lead would make this a really easy mod, with the hardest part getting the cable through the firewall to the ABS unit.

Looks to me like you're dying to have a go - are you sure you're not coming up to the Midlands? :D

Don't confuse yourself, I am just going out of my way to help people :D

Why stop now?

think vrs's have them as standard?

Yes they do Paul.

KUFATEC GmbH - Kabelsatz Reifendruckkontrolle Golf 5 V 35558

Looks nicely made and a real good price, even has the environmental sealing rubber for the ABS plug.

Excatly that one, I don't know how I missed it when I tried to find it on Kufatec's site. :)

And even that isn't very hard :)

There's already two holes through the firewall. One behind the clutch and another one behind the glovebox.

The one behind the clutch is easier. It just needs removing the battery.

Would you be reffering to a LHD car ;)

Ehem...Exactly... I didn't remember that you guys drive on the "other" side of the road :) Soorreee....

OT :

Stu if you have time, could you please check the "Light asssist retrofit" -thread. I have a small request there which I think for you is easy piecy.

Will do, I saw it this morning but didn't have to time so I left it open on my desktop.

Don't fancy a donor car for an experiment on installing this do you Stu?

In a word - No.
