VRS tailgate spoiler

Featured Replies

does anybody know how the tailgate spoiler is held on

bonded/bolted ? just bonded ?

i need to get it off to paint it , crap lacquer has allowed water underneath

I understood it was just bonded on. The lacquer on the top of mine as completely gone, not sure if i could claim for it though and guessing how much it would cost to respray i've left it.

I wouldn't have thought it would cost that much to have the spoiler re-sprayed. My bodyshop fitted and spayed my old rover body kit for £650. At a guess about £70. Could be way out tho..

Spray it your self mate... easy as.!

Sprayed my front grille at the weekend.

You wouldnt know it wasnt standard//professionally done.

Primer//Paint//Laquer cost me £16, and would have enough left to do it again.!

I think a chrome grill and a boot spoiler are a little different.

A spray can wouldnt go any where near my spoiler... ever

I would agree I did the Chrome Grill and my fog surrounds myself and they were ok. But the body colour surround for the gill was very difficult and if wasn't able to do that by can.

The larger parts are harder to spray as the coverage is hard to get right with the spray can.

Mine came off at speed once - it's bonded on with a kind or rubber epoxy. Better not to try and remove it - it would need some serious leverage with sumamt sharp underneath and may not want to stay back on afterwards....

Good luck

If you are any good at painting... then its easy to get an even coverage.

I sprayed a whole pannel on my old clio.

Turned out fine. You wouldnt know it had been resprayed.

if you have patience, and enough preparation and paint you could get a good finish on the spoiler with cans. i done my wheels with cans and the finish is as good as i'd get from any good bodyshop.

  • 10 months later...

sorry to bump an old thread but wanted to point out mine has done the same, its now been repaired by the bodyshop at work

maybe this has happened to quite a few people

still not had mine repaired , can't do without the car

mine got worse within days, started off as a 50p sized area and quickly spread to a near hand sized section of the spoiler having water/moisture under the lacquer

  • 3 years later...

Going to restart this but the majority of my lacquer has come off now, so i'm thinking about attempting a respray myself.

What prep will i need to do, etc??

Will masking off the other areas be safe or is masking tape a bit dodgy??
