Wish I had a Mini

Featured Replies

An old one that is.

Due to an accident this morning my route into Northallerton was blocked, set the sat nav to calculate an alternate route and set off, a mature looking lady in a gold R Reg Mini Cooper was in front of me and I had one of the best drives ever! She obviously knew the mostly single track roads quite well and I struggled to keep up, the mini looked to handle really well and just cornered like a go-kart!

She must have thought I looked like a right loon in my lardy (compared to a Mini) Leon struggling to get the power down on the damp corners :D

Mini's are awesome.. i really miss mine! If i had enough money to fully restore one i would buy one tomorrow and rally slag the thing. Full on stripped out, wide arches, deep dish rims, stage 3 engine kit big loud exhaust and some nice bucket seats. :D Red body, black roof, black chrome grill, black arches and a set of these fancy boots.. Mini Sport Ltd Ultralite Alloy Wheels

EDIT: Looks like someone beat me too it.. Mini : 1994 rover mini 13i

There was (prob still is) a place near me that sold everything mini - even shells and chassis.

You could litterally build your own from new, but obv it would be a Q plater.

SWMBO had a 1996 Mini. Single-point injection, so not a cooper, but still soooo much fun. On the twisties ot round islands you could leave much faster cars for dead. Predictable, go-kartish. :)

we got mini mine in stoke on trent, awesome place!

My girlfriends dad has a mini moke out in cyprus, now thats a blast! It feels like your basically driving a roasting tin with an engine!

Why? If it's got a new shell, engine and box it's legally a new build, so should get a (presently) 08 plate.

Would you need SVA for it?

Would you need SVA for it?

You might do, or you might not. Most Mini variants do already have UK type approval though.

This is our mini just about to get a puncture as take a stage maximum:thumbdwn:

They're great fun and dead easy to work on too as you don't need any new fangled tools.

What circuit is that? Those curbs look a bit brutal!

Anglesey - it's a blind 90 left and the curbs ripped open the tyre as we cut back across them.

I take it the old anglesey? I dont think that section is used anymore, when i was there about 2 months ago on the new circuit all the curbs looked quite smooth.

It is the new circuit - the first corner at the top of the hill after the long run up from the race school building but before Rocket.

I had one of the last mini coopers on an x plate, fantasic car but on the wide 13" wheels it followed every rut and camber :)

nearest i ever got to a mini was this so

after 15 yrs I finally bought back my first Kit car ,mini/metro mechanicals

all fibreglass so a bit lighter ,now I just have to get it back on the road ,absolutely fabulous on mid wales roads

Ahhh yeah i know the one.. its a real nasty corner! Coming up from school its a totally blind crest and once your over there is the turn! Plenty of lock ups and tyre smoke around that one..

@ 22 seconds in

For location and setting anglesey is superb, up on the bank next to peel with a few beers in the glorious sunshine over looking the coast watching some racing.. its living the dream!

Yep - that's the corner.

We'd had fun on the run up the corner the previous day as they had put a chicane in by the race school and we discovered someone had nudged the tyres and we could take it flat in 3rd. Second time through someone had blown their box up and left all the oil on the entrance to the chicane and the marshals had tightened it back up so we went from lock to lock all the way up the hill.

It's a great place but terrible in the wind and the rain. The weekend of the event in the picture it was gale force winds and torrential rain I even got rocked out of bed in the motorhome by the wind. Photo below shows how wet it was - it was like driving in a blizzard.

What kind of kit is that - seen one before but can't remember the name.

-Nice beading on the roof Andy

It was torrential rain - camera hasn't picked it up at all so I suspect it's the rain bouncing although it was dead slow as Nev could see feck all.

Sopposedly they're better on the 12" wheels, but not having driven one on 13" wheels I don't know.

You need small hands at times though.

They are the old Mini city I had first was much better, but not as good looking :)

10 inch rims will always be the best IMO , but it really restricts the front brakes

although alloy 4 pots with machined down Metro turbo vented discs are pretty good
