Octavia Facelift

Featured Replies

My knowledge of German is nil but the words Ford Scorpio bring feelings of terror into the brain - the earlier versions were such a great design . Is it an impending recession that brings out the worst in designers ? Have you noticed how all the recent revisions / new models look worse than the last model ( impending new Golf and current Fabia estate come to mind ) . I get the feeling that the manufacturers are scaling down but are just making sure that they do not get caught out by the public suddenly taking a shine to a particular model !

I am seriously praying that the last version , shown in the article above , of the Octavia is Paintshop , but it does look horribly like a realistic progression , following the current design of the new Fabia - sorry owners !

Yes, agreed, the Scorpio'esque mockup looks truly horrible.

But the blue car in the photos posted by Weps above, looks great!

Here's hoping.....

Neil

Now that does look the business, Weps!

Any chance of getting your 'Czec mate' to do a translation, Stu?

Neil

Sadly he only does Czech and German

Nice  the Skoda-Maybach

From that German forum, it looks like they're all just speculating too.

Although the press cutting that shows a car with Superb II style headlights looks like it might be nearest the mark. The (I guess) photoshop of the "Ford Scorpio" style front may have been a "lets see what reaction we get to this" .... assuming, threads like this are monitored, I'm with the German guy who said "aaarrrggghhh yuck"

Is it just the "standard" Octavia that is due a face-lift or is the vRS due one too?

Can you translate that query into Czech (and German)? ;)

I hope this will not be the facelift. The lights are really ugly.

I guess the facelift will look like the blue car at the bottom of this scanned page.

Here is a spy photo that looks pretty similar...

Anyway, personally I hope the facelift will look like the pictures I posted last night. That's the only facelift I really like. :)

But maybe this change is too big for a simple facelift? What do you guys think?

Probably, we'll have to wait till November, December or maybe even January before we'll get some official news. :(

Stoofa, if you hadn't realised it, the vRS is not a different car it is only the "standard" bodyshell one with different bumpers!!!!!!!! Therefore any facelift would be of the Octavia, which is the model. The Classic, Ambiente, Elegance, Scout, vRS and L&K are simply that model's differing trim levels.

Oh I knew the vRS isn't a different car.

It's just the vRS obviously "looks" slightly different to the Octavia so I'm assuming they will still want to keep the vRS looking slightly different.

So they will just keep the different bumpers - that all makes sense.

Before writing this I did look to see you weren't from another country, thus perhaps struggling with the language - having seen you are form Cambs I feel it is fair for me to post...........

I still think you are missing a vital point here - the vRS does not look different to an Octavia! It IS an Octavia! It does have a sporty look though, because of the different bumpers and the rear spoiler (hatch), together with special alloy wheels. Using your language it could be said that the L&K doesn't look like an Octavia - if you assumed the Classic is the ONLY Octavia, as it has large alloy wheels and other minor tweaks.

I think you really mean that the vRS stands out among the Octavia trim levels due to its bumpers and spoiler and you wonder whether the difference will still be apparent after it gets a facelift???

If the model is facelifted then the vRS will surely be kept as a styling apart from the rest, so as to maintian a sporty image. However, I doubt that the present bumpers will survive as it is likley that the front of the car will be the facelifted part, so the bumpers may be different to the rest of the line up, but not the ones used now.

PS if any trim level makes a vehicle look 'different' from its actual chassis then it has to be the Scout, very much apart from the rest of the line up..........yet will still be facelifted along with all other trim lvels as it is to be the OCTAVIA they change, not a trim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure its 100% the same " just with different bumpers"

yes the body panels may be the same

BUT the VRS's are built at a different factory I think

See this post by VRSTU he is practically a VRS MKII GOD on here

http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/vrs-versus-sport/116952/

Building a car in a different factory with the same bodyshell and most parts (engine and running gear/suspensions different) doesn't make them different cars. Skoda is not the only manufacturer to build cars in more than one plant, Ford and GM have done this for years, still they can be the same car!

I've been advised that the facelifted Octavia for the UK will start production in build-week 45.

Which week is that?

Round about second week in November I think. I guess it would take a few weeks to actually reach the UK dealer.

Stoofa, when the details of the talked about Octavia facelift are released (whenever that is), make sure you point them out to fireftrm - he/she may not be so quick with their bold pen then.

I must appologise to at least one person in this thread as it appears I have annoyed them.

Maybe I didn't correctly say what I wanted to say - in fact reading back maybe that is the case.

Not sure I deserved one of the replies I actually got - but still, this is the Internet and as somebody who has been using the net for 15yrs you do get used to it!

Anyway, the point I was really trying to make is that we are seeing possible leaked pictures of an Octavia Facelift.

Yes the vRS is just an Octavia, but they have added bumpers, they have given it a distinctive look, even if underneath it is the same vehicle.

My question really was if the "added extras" on the vRS that give it its distinctive look were going to be changed as well.

If we would see a general Octavia facelift and a "new look" vRS at the same time or if it is all spec levels upto the vRS that are going to get the new look and the vRS will retain it's current bumper configuration and look no different.

Anyway - I guess I'll just wait and see and again sorry to those that I appear to have annoyed.

i was in the dealers yesterday because i am due a new company car and asked about the face lift he is getting back to me on it and also about the new metallic grey Octavia vrs which i queried, if the facelift is coming out soon i might wait to see if they do it like ford did with the focus because they brought the ST facelift out straight away, if its going to be more than 6 month for the facelifted vrs then i will prob get the current model, will post what i know when he gets back to me.

i would have thought they will change the VRS as i guess its pretty certain the front grille will change to the current skoda standard on superb and fabia ii. Might look a bit odd having two different grilles on the "normal" and VRS octy.

Stoofa you didn't annoy me at all, I was trying only to point that the facelift, as sworral says, is likely to be to the car, not bumpers i.e new headlights, grille, maybe dash changes too. This should mean the vRS getting an update at the same time, as for the Focus, and hopefully keeping some noticeable distinctions. Like charlie I am awaiting furhter news before ordering my new car, as I have been for months. I am aware that old parts would be in supply to allow for models still to be manufactured to the existing design, however as 'just in time' is the norm it is unlikleyt hat any manufacturer would want one trim level to maingtian an obsolete design when all others have moved to new parts, whether the same factory, or not. The economies of scle woudl also play a major part?

That is unless Skoda wish to replace the Tour with the MkII, so keep this bodyshell and parts?

From the czech site, scroll down for this picture - I like it, though what the wording says I have no idea, anyone? George as the moderator of teh Czech site you presumably have good Czech as well as English. So what is all the writing about this picture and follwoing posts?

Edited by fireftrm

do i not like that.

That last image is a photoshop, and not a very good one at that. Someone has attempted to graft the front of a new superb onto an octavia and got the scale wrong.

YEs maybe they did, but (and I await George's comments ehre) they also put eh headlamps the other way up (Superb ones dip down, don't have an up slant), moved the headlamp washers, which are in the bit next to the dip down part, changed the bumper to have the lip bend up more sharlpy to the grille, changed the shape of the grille to be more angular at the bottom and side, moved the grill to the bonnet and not part of the bumper, changed the lower grille outer edges to meet the foglamps and changed the shape of them slightly, then lastly the outer edge of the bumper to match the Octavia front wheel arch lip, rather than a very much wider Superb one and then changed the bottom edge shape compeltely along side this. So if a photoshop, and it may well be (though it looks remarkbaly like th spy shot photo!) then it seems a damn good one to me.
