Fabia vrs pd130 standard turbo and clutch

Featured Replies

Just a quick question,

Im just wanting to know what the maximum power the standard pd130 turbo and cluch will take ?

The vrs Im thining of buying has been mapped to 180bhp and wonderd if the turbo and clutch will be ok or need replacing ? its got 40k on the clock, dont know when it was mapped though

Thanks

Richard

I think anymore than 180 and it will need a new clutch.

Yeah, wouldn't want to take it past that. But then any reputable mapping company shouldn't go past the limit anyway - do you know who did it?

Its not usually the bhp that blows up the clutch IMHO but the number of torques produced. Having said that, the producers of clutches and fly-wheels seem to rate their products as "good up to xxx bhp".

What's the torque rating of the car you are looking at?

My car was dyno'd at 176 bhp & 300+ ft/lb and it blew the original clutch & DMF, hence the need for custom-mapping.

Clutch is a must really. Your standard one wont last too long with 180 horses.

Clutch companies rate there clutches this way because there isnt meny cars that will produce 500n/m but 130bhp (example only).

Dont know about the turbo. Im wondering about my standard 130 horses + few extras @ 60k miles.

Dont know how long a std turbo will last. wouldnt mind knowing tho.

Well mine is on original turbo & Clutch/dmf, mapped, and sitting on 113k at the moment.

Still ticks along

Maybe i dont drive it hard enough. :D

When i took mine to jabba for the custom map, I asked for 'component friendly'.

They stated that the standard clutch can take about 300 ft/lb ok (but not much more) and so I ended up with 168bhp and 300 fl /lb. He then wound it back a little to 160bhp to make it burn a little cleaner without having to up the boost. All it did was shave a little spike off the power curve, nothing major.

It all depends though on whereabouts in the rev range the power is delivered. Some generic maps can have the tendancy of applying all the grunt low down and thus are worse for the clutch and DMF. A decent one (or custom one :D) applies it higher up letting it build as the revs rise making it much more clutch etc friendly.

Wanna keep the standard clutch, turbo and DMF? Go custom. It's only an extra £100 and well worth it.

EDIT - Mine was done at 54k too, that was 4 weeks ago.

The newer model -06 and forward have a better cluch i think, becouse i have mine uppgrade to 190ps/435Nm and had no problem with the clutch, but my turbo dosent liked it.. crash after 3k :(

my car is a -07 and i driv it very hard :)

my mate (spudgun if he`s on here) is runnin 180bhp, std clutch, no problems. Its how you drive and how well the map was done.

Standard Original Clutch, Original Turbo, Mapped for 80k now at 107k miles. 175bhp and 285lb/ft

Can i ask who did your Map, Im torn between Angel tuning and P Torque as they both seem to have a reasonable reputation and are quite local

Cheers

I actually witness an Angel Tuning map go kaboom

Coincidence - who knows

So do you think it would be ok to get a boost controller, and up the boost myself? only a tiny bit?

Can you even do that??

Best i know is Revo? or star performance is switchable

AmD generic One-click (switchable) re-map. Info HERE worth noting that AmD are now owned IIRC by Big Boys Toys so I can't comment on thier recent products

sorry for the late reply but thanks for the info, dont know who the car was mapped by so dont know the exact torque figure but its around the 180bhp mark

I'm picking it up next saturday so will get it on the rollers and see what its got :D

From what andy said its an awesome gti map on it...... 182 bhp.....

so it should be a good one and i think the origional owner was on here to.

nice one lewis

thanks

Retract my original statement...my clutch retired lastnight ! :D

182bhp just from a remap ? Yikes.

Most on proper dyno dynamics rollers only make 160-170 with a remap ;)

135ps/435NM = 187bhp/321lb/ft

awesome rr proven 174bhp/347 ft lbs for me when run on bp ultimate:D

clutch is rated to 600ft lbs tho:thumbup:and an smf instead of a dmf too

haha Brilliant.

Single Mass Flywheel FTW, best mod ive done to mine

Not sure what to do...got a spare DMF sitting here already...
