Becoming common

Featured Replies

Just lately I have seen more vRS than any other version of Octavia, so much so that I have decided to not even bother posting in "was that you" section. It seems that the vRS is going to be the most common out there!!.

I have also seen 2 Superbs in as many days:( .

A silver one on the A2 complete with private car hire areial oin the boot lid:( , and down at Crawley yesterday (sat) a black 2.5 V6 TDI complete with rear lady occupant and capped cheufeur driving!!!. Sublime to the ridulous?;)

Anyway, it seems our exclusivity is on the wane......oh well.

Cheers

It's not common - it's popular!

Maybe it will help on the second-hand market. :D

I had serious trouble finding a Skoda dealer that would offer decent money for my Legacy sedan, as there are less than 200 of them in the whole country. "With such a small buyers' market, how will I find someone interested?" they all said.

Then again, dealers will use any kind of b*** to wiggle themselves out of deal. My dad got the other end of the stick when he was told that "there are just too many around for your car to have a decent residual value - lots of choice, and nobody wants them anyway".

Now, which of those dealers was paying attention in the economics class?

As may be, but I like a little exclusivity with my car. I read the other day that 3 series BM,s are outselling Mondeos now. Badge snobbery going strong there then.

Cheers

You serious? I hardly ever see any vRS's, once a week perhaps.

I see a Black beauty every day. :D

Deadly serious. So far this weekend I have seen 4, and 2 of those have driven past my house.

I would think it could also be the "dealer ring effect" whereby you get an increase of that particular make/model in the vicinity of the marques dealer.

I still maintain that its the most popular model to me.

And well deserved popularity I say. ;)

Must admit that I drive around Worcestershire/ Gloucestershire every week and it is very rare for me to see another vRS and even rarer to see one drive past my house ( I live at the end of a cul de sac ! ) .

But Superbs , I see them everywhere - exclusive ! - you'd be exclusive if you didn't own a Superb ;)

Yes I know, I have seen 2 in the past week. Standards are slipping, letting all and sundry buy a Superb. The hoi-poloi should stick to their vRS,s:D .

That's not quite right because they always were, especially in black. OTOH, Dynamic blue 4X4 Estates are rare. :D :D :D

Was that with or without your permission ?

'ello.

Saw my first Superb on the road. In Waltham Cross of all places.

I don't think it is such a bad thing that the RS/Skoda is getting a good name? As this just shows up the other so called better marques? I also think the RS is still a rare commodity? I drive from Surrey to Gerrards Cross taking in London every day and I have only seen three RSs in the past six months.

The only problem I can see with Skodas is that they are excellent value for

money - more so than Mondeos and Vectras. So this will no doubt attract

fleet managers, so soon Octavias and Superbs will be the new repmobile.

Which is not necessarily a bad thing, as this new breed of Skoda drivers

will be reminded of what it's like to drive a car with some feel in the steering

and good general chuckability. So then all the other manufacturers will

have to stop making naff boring cars, and after this revolution the world

will become a better place where people smile.

Or everyone will just buy BMW 316s because someone famous has one

and we'll be doomed to overpriced underperformance.

Rob (it makes sense in my world).

RS's - don't see many... not seen any RS estates on the road yet.

Superb's - see very very few (like oh my god, there's a superb)

4x4's - difficult to spot, but very very rare, quite often in euclyptus green, estate and hatch. I must have seen about 5 in the time I've had mine!

L&K's - rare, seen 2 I think on the road.

See a lot of TDI octy's, even amongst non-taxi's, TDI seems to be the most popular.

I've even seen a vRS police car  It looked very smart, it was parked on a roundabout on the A590 at Newby Bridge, in the Lakes.

  • 2 weeks later...

Never seen a Superb (except mine!).

Personally I love the irony of the badge. People used to drive BMs because they were exclusive, as some one said the 3 series now outsells the Mondeo.

I have driven from Hull to Manchester and back twice in the last 2 days and I've got a lot of intrigued looks especially from Passat drivers. Still haven't seen another Superb. People approach me in Petrol stations and ask me about it, doesn't happen with a BM.

What I find most amazing is that when you talk to people they know all about the VW link and the quality and they're not like they used to be blah blah...... BUT when they actually see the car there is a kind of dumb-founded silence as if they can't quite take it in. These cars are sat in the dealers all over the country and anyone can walk in and see them, but this is where the problem lies; I had an interesting chat with the dealer that supplied my car and he said people will not "cross the threshold" and view the car, if they do more often than not they will buy.

Any way their loss.... and bear in mind what the boss of VAG is on record as saying,,,,, The Superb is a mistake that wont be allowed to happen again. Effectively it is too good and will attract over buyers from the othe VAG marques which goes against the grand masterplan. Enjoy the Superb while it's available.

In some ways I like the exclusivity of my Superb and the laughing at gawping Passat drivers, but I also like the thought of strong residual values when selling comes around. By then people will be more keen to buy as the company car snob will not be buying them, it will be your private buyer who buys because they like and value something (I think).

Cheers

ps the sig says it all.

to be honest i see more fabias than any other skoda in my area , a few octavias(ie diesels) never seen a vrs or 4x4....apart from me own of course.......you never know they may become the classics of the future......well somethng has to be.....

regds ect;)

Seen 4 RS's in the last 24 hrs.

1) Mine :D

2) Silver Hatchback about the same age as mine

3) Brand new Black Hatchback, parked in the same company carpark as 2.

4) New Combi on the way to work this morning.

I am seeing more than I used to, but still not as many as vectra's / mondeo's etc.

Could be worse.............. could be as common as the BM 3 series.

Now that would be a gross slipping of standards.

Sadly yes...The big 2.5v6 oil burner would be a very very nice tourer for a snip when they decide to off load em.

I see quite a few fabia/felica. The odd vRS, of course I look just like any other Octavia so nobody comes to say hi :( I go to them...wierdo

The very fact it can do what it can do suprises just about anybody I have spoken to, be it car junky or over a bottol of red on socials.

Maybe it will become classic, hard to tell what will, although with the current press blackout on anything skoda I guess they will fade off except to the knowing few.

Thats my 2p anyway.

I personally know of five RSs in the entire country... Must be more of them, second-hand sales have also started, but I haven't yet seen one in full-action mode. As for 4x4s - none. One thing's for certain: I'm the only Dutch 4x4 driver on the Internet!

I only see 1.6s, a few 2.0s and a lot of TDIs - all Estates, of course, those diesels. Bit of a sales-rep dark horse, that. Sensible man wanting the absolute value-for-money bargain. And let's be honest, it is the absolute value-for-money offer if you don't mind the lack of rear legroom.
