Cat and Fiddle VIII - Sunday 12th October 2008

Featured Replies

Well, as promised (although a little late I admit:O).

I am about to go away for a week so until I return, there won't really be any details until then, but it will follow a similar theme to previous meets.

Due to time constraints, this meet is going to be a day meet. I would like to see a C&F weekend camping meet though - probably something for the Spring. For now, it's a day meet though.:)

Choosing the Sunday was a tad tricky as there are arguments for and against Saturdays and Sundays, but I figured that if people want to go for a few drinks on Saturday night, they'd appreciate the Saturday afternoon to travel to the area, get themselves sorted etc., rather than battle it on a Friday after work. :) It's not a win-win situation but I hope it suits people.

UPDATED INFORMATION

The arrangements are to meet at the Cat & Fiddle pub at 11:00am to 11:30am. There will be the usual little gathering, coffee, conversation etc., before heading off on a short drive to the lunch venue. After that, we will then go on a longer drive with the intention of getting back to the C&F at around 5pm. Along the way there will be photo opportunities and scenic stops (Peak District weather depending).

The Cat & Fiddle is located here: SK11 0AR - Google Maps

The pub is called The Manifold Inn, and is located in Hulme End, Derbyshire (postcode SK17 0EX). I'll try and get an exact location from google maps though.:)

Righty, let's start a list, eh?:D

My initial idea for a lunch venue was the Red Lion in Thorncliffe again, but I seem to recall one or two members were dissatisfied last time. Perhaps they could contact me via PM and let me know their feelings please? I don't wish to arrange for a venue if it will put some people off.:)

You should find out from the landlady if we are welcome there again.

Me & my mate were the last in the pub after we all ate as our food was last to be served. We got talking to the landlady before we left thanking her for the lovely meal.

I don't know what went off, but she told us that someone had really upset her from the group & she said they didn't want us back.

Looks like I am working that weekend :(

9)Wardy (provisional)

(postcode to follow shortly, but it's between Buxton and Macclesfield on the A537)

Just dug the detail out from last time Rob  - should help people...

Not seen them elsewhere in the thread, and I've just been sorting out routes in the Southern Convoy thread, so thought they'd be useful here too!

For anyone relying on satnav to get to the pub, please don't use the postcode listed, it's fairly inaccurate. But most satnavs should be able to work with coordinate input. For the C&F pub, you need 53.243798, -1.999582 in decimal. Check your route and device well in advance to see that it works. If you need coordinates in Degrees, Minutes & Seconds it's Lat: 53° 14' 37.6722" Long: -1° 59' 58.4946"

And all those lovely numbers translates to this on Google Maps

How about lunch in Leather's Smithy in Macc forest, there are various interesting single track routes there from the CnF.

That was where we went for C&F 1 as I recall (showing my age there...). I seem to recall Vag-Comming Sharkrider's Fabia in the car park.

We're about due a return.

The Leather Smithy is nowhere near what it was. The last few times I've been there it's been awful so I don't intend on taking us there. There is also a bit of an issue with parking space as they have a pretty small car park.:)

I've just returned from a week away so I'll be posting further details up tomorrow when I get the chance to sort them out.

You mean they've picked it up and moved it?

There's always one.

Can The Hanging Gate be incorporated on the route at all Rob? Very good standard there, the times I've been - inc lunch a few weeks ago.

The Manifold Inn at Hulme End is nice. They are car club friendly and were keen to have us last time I asked. Some nice roads on the way over there too.

Ah well, won't be able to make this one as I work Sundays. I know its hard to find a day when everybody is uncommitted.

Aww we were going to have a sweepstake to see what car you would have by then :thumbdwn:
