Poor AM Radio reception

Featured Replies

Hi All,

As above please, 56 plate Vrs Tdi Est, will be due a service soon, is there anything that can be done to improve the reception? (footy starts soon !!!)

Many thanks

People still listen to AM..............

As far as I can remember, Am reception has allways been iffiy.

My guess is it needs a new aerial - It's a common problem - water gets in the base and knackers the amplifier mounted in the antenna base - I think if you press and hold the info button it should should whether the antenna amp is on or off. If it's out of warranty it should be about £30 for the part and half and hour to fit it (I did one on our Fabia a while back) otherwise get it back to the dealer for a new one under warranty

take the radio out and push all the connections back in at the back. when i put the bluetooth kit in i had to take all the connections out and put them back in once finished and since then the reception has been much better.

I have a Dec2007 and I had clocked the comments on here regarding poor radio reception before I bought it (new) . Checked the AM & FM in a demonstrator (1.8TSI) and was impressed : Mw - no interferece even on weak stations. Lw clean except on weaker ones(R4 100%) FM good.

About 2 months ago I noticed R4 (LW) was crackly & Mw stations were poor. FM seemed ok but I noticed some local stuff was not good. The radio ENG. menu showed "weak" on R4(LW) but the Ant was showing "on". I suspected it was the antenna & booked it in under warranty.

Sure enough " yeah we get lots of them" and it was replaced - radio is now excellent again.........I just wonder for how long as the first manged 6 months before it was well down on performance. i had a quick look at the base when it was removed & nothing obvious could be seen.

I bet there are thousands of VAGs out there with dead aerials. Our Arosa is equally useless but my other half only listens to CD.

I too went to listen to R5 Live (909 and 693am) the other day and was shocked how bad it has got! I knew it was never brilliant but now its none audible!:thumbdwn:

Many thanks all, will mention it on the sevice

Nowt wrong with my AM reception.Maybe its the area iam in?

I have the same problem with my vRS, it was OK a couple of months ago and now constant crackle. I need AM to listen to Talksport! The only channel worth listening to!

Still under warranty so I might challenge the dealer. AM reception is fine on my Scooby so it rules out bad reception.

I heard off a skoda engineer friend of mine that on some early MKII vRS's that they got two wires mixed up causing bad radio reception and if your carefull and swap them round it sorts it. maybe one of our resident vRS guys can shed some light on this hope this helps

Same here

I get more crackle when I drive under bridges or park in the car park

  • 2 weeks later...

how easy is it to change the Ariel amp, is there any picks

The other thing I may need to change is the Ariel connector on the back of the stream because when my blue tooth was fitted it came apart so I am hoping that the lead is in 2 parts and is easily changed

I have checked the signal by holding the menu button until the menu comes on it say amp on, in the top left and stereo in the bottom left but reception can be iffy sometimes
