Which coilovers?

Featured Replies

Ok, so after a few months of driving round a bouncy castle, I have decided that I am going to get some coilovers to replace the cheapo lowering springs (previous owner) and knackered standard shocks that are currently on the car.

I have a 110hp diesel, so the car is slightly heavier than the standard petrol, and I imagine the springs that are on it are designed for a mk4 golf as they seem to have no strength in them due to the extra weight..

(I am also living in fear as my sump scrapes everything when driving along due to the bouncing :(:()

Can anyone suggest a setup for less than £400 specifically for a 1.9 diesel, or if anyone else has had this problem, what did they do?

Thanks in advance!

thanks Lloyd55vrs, but unfortunately I really cant afford any more than that, and thats pushing it to be honest!

Basically I just want the bounciness to stop, maybe my best bet is a new set of OEM dampers??

:confused::confused::confused:

Forget coilovers because your not going to get a good set for that price. Cheap coilovers such as ebay rubbish will cost you more longterm when shock seals blow and springs snap. Plus handling will be :thumbdwn:

A good set of dampers and springs should see a big improvement. Koni FSD dampers are probably the best you'll find and should be within budget then use your existing springs but if there were not intended for an octy get some H&R springs. It's vitally important you get the right spring poundage so don't settle for golf springs as the Octy should be stiffer at the back due to the boot overhang.

Weitec coilovers cost £400 but that was for a vrs, dont know about diesels.

Weitec are owned by KW and the difference is the parts are galvanized and not stainless.

Had mine on 18 months with no issues

Thanks, its really only the front of the car that I ahve the problems, so maybe only replacing the front with better quality dampers will reduce the cost??

What does everyone think??

have noticed janspeed have gone into suspension now,not that expensive,but dont know what there like tho,also venom are doing ap coilovers,seem to be getting some good comments and only £350.
