Octy vRS Average Fuel Consumption??

Featured Replies

Whats everyones average fuel consumption in their octy vRS? Mine was running badly the other week & fuel consumption was down to around 33mpg on an average 'not thrashed' run out. Went to dealer, they replaced the throttle body & average is now around 35 - 36mpg on a similar run. Before problems started, i was averaging around 38-39....???

What is so bad about 33mpg?

Nothing really, boss pays for fuel anyway, but thought i might still have a problem if 33mpg is unusual...? :D

Mines nearly done it's first 1000 and I'm averaging 30-31mpg.

Ventmore

ive done 20k and is averaging 57 over a tank with 60+ common on-a-run..

is this the Alcofrolics Anonymous? err, oh sorry wrong forum ;)

didn't realise the counter went up to 33, mine seems to be stuck around mid 20's :D:D:D:D

I have a 1.8t auto and am averaging 33mpg after 5500 miles. On a run cruising at 65, if I can avoid falling asleep it will do 40mpg. Cruising at 70 its 38, 80 its about 33. Around town its not very good at all but then it is auto.

Mid to high 30s in my Jabba'd example, using cruise on a long run I can manage over 40. Highest I've seen with cruise is 43MPG on a 50 mile journey.

My vRS estate's done 2050 miles now and the computer's telling me 29.8 average.

31.48mpg over 9424 miles, some 4000 of which are post-Jabba. :)

Rob, as the mileage increases some more you should see that figure improve.

Guys,

Thanks for the info, but i may be talking out of my *rse yet again....!! Been on a long run from Uttoxeter upto Co Durham today up the A1 & sticking around 70 ish...(?) mph, its averaged 41 to the gallon!! So seems like its running ok - its probably me just thrashing about in it on short journeys!!??

I thrashed mine, fully loaded, from home (on the Wirral) to south of Reims, in France, on the way to our camping trip. The 'pooter said we averaged 73mph over the whole journey, and it still did 33.5 mpg!

Coming home, I took it a bit steadier, but the car was even heavier (lots of loud 'clinking' noises coming from the boot after a visit to Calais on the way home :D ), and we averaged 38.5 mpg for the return journey.

Not bad, I reckon. There can't be too many petrol cars that could keep up that kind of speed and still return a 'reasonable' mpg figure.

And yes, I know, I know, a Fab would be even better ... but you couldn't get all SWMBO's gear into a Fab :D

Mines a bit low at present owing to third gear in road work rolling start race to the M56 Junction...locals will know where I mean ;)

In Scotland SWMBO and I did an experiment...she drove 90 miles to a standing stone site and I drove back. The roads are Good A class and small single track, so a fair test I think given stop starts and good flowing roads.

She got 37.5MPG and took 1hour 50.

I got 30.5MGP and took a about 1hours 20.

Needless to say a good saving in fuel, not so good in time, but lessons learnt...

Mines only done 50 miles, shortish runs and it's averaging about 35mpg, but then agian I am running it in  Can't wait to thrash it...

best i have had in my Vrs is 40.4 on a 80 mile run doing steady speed (missus was in the car!) Worst is just under 16mpg on a 25 mile run down the A50. Yes officer i was doing 70 honest haha

What were you doing - did you drive that 25 miles in second????? Mine only goes that low when i floor it in low gears!

Oh, I've had similar spirited runs over 25 miles or so that saw 13 mpg!

That's going full-blast, using a 4000-6000 rev band... :D

best ive had 43mpg :) . worst 13.9mpg  :D

Interestingly i've just had the spark plugs changed on my car as part of its 40k service and hey presto I am now getting 50 miles more on a tank !!!

Best-43.3 worst-11.6, thrashing it down back roads 20 to 25. Long journey can be 37 to 43.

took it flat out in every gear up to just over 145 then road got a bit bumpy. Anyone had problems with their bonnets? mine started to lift at 80 took it in and they tightened up the catch, its ok now up to 110. Garage say they cant do anything as they cant road test over 70!!!

Doing 60-70 miles a day, with driving ranging from standing stop start traffic lights to full 70mph+++++. Averaging over every 1000 miles a good steady 33mpg. I'm quite happy with this as I'm driving a lot harder and faster than I do in my 1.8petrol Focus which only returns the same MPG. Not as good as my old work horse Pug 306 1.9TD which will quite happily do 600 to the tank !

Best 48.3 over 100mile run, worst upper 20s on short runs. The fuel calculator thingy did show 49 once but then droped down. I think 50 should be poss, any one confirm this? Also recon tank should be good for 500 miles, but Ive yet to acheve this. I only average about 36 at present. Mostly runs of 5 miles or so.

Best I got was 44.4 on a long run up to the north east. I was driving like a grandad though. Worst....not sure no point in looking :D

When our old friend 17705 reared it's ugly head it was low 30's on a good slow run :thumbdwn:
