utorrent help please

Featured Replies

hi recently i had a popup on utorrent asking if i wanted to upgrade to the newest one.

i stupidly said yes and now when i download something and want to set the upload limit to less than unlimited it cuts my download rate rapidly...

anyone know the version i need to get which does not do this and where i could get it from?

many thanks

any ideas anyone this is killing me

I'll move this to Tech Shed.

Might just be the nature of the torrents you were connected to. I understand the technology itself is based on a sharing principle, so the faster (more) you upload - the more (faster) other computers in the swarm will send to you. I can't see how just the version change would have any affect unless some settings have been changed.

Use the newest of uTorrent. Always.

Limiting upload rate is very a*sholeish because torrents are built up on leech and share principle. You're not downloading from a central server somewhere in India. You're pulling data from Jimmy from next door, Vadim from Moscow and if you're DLing p0rn, then definitely from me also :D. So, just keep the upload rate unlimited and you get what you want much faster. If you can't do that then torrents are not for you mate.

IIRC you should not have an unlimited upload rate because if you saturate your upload bandwidth then your download suffers as well. I always set my upload to something sensible. I am on upto 8mb down and 450kbps up, so i normally set mine at half of my potential upload speed around 20kbps

:iagree:

This is the case with ADSL anyway.. i use 15-20k up and unlimited down.

I'm using 12Mbit/s connection with 2Mbit/s upstream. So I can't saturate my downstream and I keep my options all unlimited so I forgot about that tiny bit. Sorry!

But still, you should upload as much as possible and atleast try to seed the subject for few hours after you've finished DLing.

I want one of those in my house  but then I would have to upgrade my NAS to something bigger!
