brake replacement info pls

Featured Replies

hello all, and thanks for reading my 1st post.

i would be grateful if someone could advise me what tools i will require to change the front pads on my '03' fabia 1.2Htp. having taken the wheels off to look at the pads for wear, it seems that the bolt connecting the caliper to the wheel is not of a type i have seen before. also, any clues as to maybe how easy it would be to change the discs too, should they need doing (from initial inspection, i think they are ok, but not 100% sure).

any self help guides would also be greatly appreciated.

please accept my apologies if this is something that has already been covered on the forum, however i have searched all over and not found what i am looking for.

many thanks in advance to all who can help.

If I were you, I'd buy a Haynes repair manual for your car first of all so that you have info to fall back on - torques, disc min thickness procedures etc. You should find one on ebay okay or if you can't wait just get your local Halfords to order one in - it is HAYNES 4376.

like anything dave..easy if you know how...difficult if you dont...easiest way to learn is by watching sum1 who's capable...gl tho

its more than likely a 13mm to take the caliper or to put the pads in or something like that

many thanks guys. i used to do the brakes all the time when i was in my teens, however when i went to look at them this time, with it being a newer car than i had in my early twenties, i appreciate that a lot of manufacturers now tend to have specifit bolts made for their bits which is unique to their car range, to presumably encourage you to go back to their dealership to have the work done rather than doing it for yourself.

BTW, anyone know where i can get haynes manuals from? i checked Halfords, and they are looking at £19 for the fabia book. £19 would probably cover the labour costs for a local mechanic to do the brakes............. lol

It may well do, but there will be further savings :)

And welcome :)

On the HTP you will have an FSIII type caliper.

You need a 7mm allen key to take out the slider bolts and then the caliper will pull off. Be carefull when refitting as the bottom of the pads must be slotted in place first, the swing the caliper up and fit the bolts.

Also, do not believe all you read in the Paynes manual....
