lambda sensor

Featured Replies

hiya all,

have got a skoda octavia vrs and the lambda sensor has gone. does it need to go into skoda to be done or can i do it myself? if i can, where would be the best place to get one and roughly how much? bit pigged off with it as it was only done by skoda 2 yrs ago and the car has only done 15000miles since done:thumbdwn:

Should be able to do it yourself.

IIRC there are two, is it for sure the same one that has failed?

 Didn't know that it had two.

Might be best to change the two then. Where abouts are they?

Is it a big job? The worst thing is it is booked in for its MOT next week so I will have to get something sorted by then and dont fancy paying loads of bills

Where can I buy them from?

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Neil

No 1 is pre cat, between the exhaust manifold and the cat, No 2 is after the cat and should be more obvious to see.

Main dealer is an ideal place to buy, price them up first and then maybe try some 3rd party ones such as Euro Car Parts.

Mine went a while ago. replaced it myself to a tune of £93 trade price, so you might want to re-think replacing them both.

If you know anyone with a diagnostics machine they'll be able to find which one has gone.

How do you know the lambda sensor has gone?? My warning light came on a while back which indicated from the codes (according to skoda) lambda sensor issue. They reset it, it came on again quickly with same code error. Skoda replaced both sensors....then gues what light back on and according to skoda garage same code error. It took them a while but eventually they found a very small split in one of the air pipes!!! this was changed and lo and behold car fixed. A very costly exercise, I am informed that Lambda sensor should last a long long time my car had only done 50K and they should last much longer than that!!! you have been warned....

Mine was swapped at 50k for failing the emissions test...car drove fine however. This was the pre-cat one.

VAG Trade Pricing -

1.8T AUM; 1.8T vRS Front - 021 906 262B £81.89 +VAT

1.8T AUM; 1.8T vRS Rear - 06A 906 262Q £81.89 +VAT

Perhaps if you have an invoice from the last repair it will list the PT Number for the one already replaced.

How do you get VAG trade prices rather than normal skoda prices?

t

You can ask for a discount from your dealer, most will give you 10% or you can apply for an account with Trade Parts Specialists
