Maxi Dot

Featured Replies

Am I right in thinking that if you have MaxiDot you have access to loads of options that you can activate or deactivate like one click all door unlocking that would otherwise entail a trip to the dealer to set?

Or am I yapping up the wrong shrub

You are right to an extent but only on later cars

I have an '08 model and the maxi-dot doesn't actually allow very much at all as far as I can see. There is an option to rain close the windows and something to do with single door locking, but that seems to be it.

As it happens I was going to ask how big a deal is it to change some of the settings - more than three flashes on the "flick indicate" and auto locking of the doors when the car is moving for example.

would an software update on a service help in getting some of these new options added stu?

These new options are comfort module dependant. Older modules are 14bit and newer ones are 19bit.

For example, you cannot get rain closing to work with older module because the bits are not there.

'08 car should have the newer module. More than three flashes is not possible from maxidot. The option is either single flash or three flashes. I'm not sure if it's possible to change the amount of flashes with vag-com.

its not possible to change the three flashes to more with vagcom on an octy 2.

Quick follow-up: Is it possible via maxi-dot to turn off coming home/leaving home function ?

(if it is described in the manual, my excuse is that my car is in transport from the factory...)

Like Ants said yes. But only if you have bought the light assist set or dealer codes CH/LH lights for you. It's not automatically there.

if you have an mfd2 do the sat nav directions show on the maxi dot?

nuts, is there anything else 'cool' (other than CH / LH lights) that the dealer will have to set maxidot to allow me to do?

want to get them to do as much stuff like this as possible before I pick it up :D

Yes. If route guidance is activated, it shows the road you're on, estimated time of arrival and distance to next turn. When closing intersection, it changes to show a guide arrow on where to turn and to a decreasing "block" which indicates the distance to the turn.

When route guidance is not activated and navigation is selected in maxidot, it'll show a compass and the road name you're on.

I've attached some pictures.

Very very clever and user friendly in my opinion.

That's pretty much it. If you install footwell lights and wire the positive from the central electronics and enable the lights with either VAS or Vag-Com it shows up in the maxidot. From there you can change the intensity of the lights (10 % - 100 %) when on.

CH/LH -lights are not set to maxidot. They have to enabled in central electronics module and after been enabled the options appear in maxidot under setup -> Lights&Vision.

And this is entirely up to the dealer if he wants to do it. I wouldn't count on it as light assist is sold as a separate package.... If you have a friend with Vag-Com software and cable, he can do it very easily.

Thank you, and Ants.

CH/LH is part of the std. equipment for Octavia II Elegance and L&K in Norwegian spec.

Also got confirmation today that Parking Sensors will be displayed on the Columbus nav... :) (only 3 more weeks left.......)

that's interesting about the sat nav displayed on the maxidot..i had a kenwood 7220 installed a few weeks back..how would i set about displaying the sat nav from that on my maxidot?..would it need 'vag commed', and if so, how much would i expect my dealer to charge for doing it?..also, could i display my ipod stuff etc?

once CH/LH has been set via vagcom you can change the amount of time the lights are on for with maxidot

Not possible. Only OEM satnav systems and OEM radios interact with Maxidot.

coorect iirc its mdf2 with sat nav onwards for the direction etc, even through a basic gps compass linked to the maxidot would be a great idea if skoda would come up with such a thing.. but then the list could go on and on with things we would like for it as one i would like is a digital speedo:D

I'm pretty sure that the black-white display RNS system also shows direction info on Maxidot. It was named Cruise I think.

Integrated digital compass without actual satnav system would be nice.

couldnt see such a thing costing much either as gps on its own is dirt cheap and all it be working out would be your direction!!

i have done a search on maxidot (not a good one obviously as i'm sure others have asked but i couldnt find), but can you set it to do the autolock as you drive off, or is this enabled by default now-a-days? (edit: the more i read the more i find - yes is the answer if it interests others :D --- http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/auto-lock-now-standard-2007-octavia/77527/#post891544 )

also, I found quotes (from 2005) stating that Maxidot comes with steering wheel audio controls, but only if you also specify you want the audio controls with the maxidot... just wondered if this was still the case 3 years on (edit: found 'No' answer here: http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/multi-function-steering-wheel-option/87371/ / http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/vrs-steering-wheel/80032/ )

That's very interesting. I was under the impression that parking sensor display was not available with the Columbus.

If the Maxidot upgrade is added, then unless you have a VRS you'll get steering controls for audio.

Maxidot can set autolock, drivers door only unlock and also how they unlock again (after key removed, or engine off).

Rain closure of windows is another selectable option.

I read about it at RNS 510 Navi System - VWnavi.com and made my dealer ask the factory folks... it's new from 08.2008.....

Thanks for that. The reason for my curiosity is that I had a replacement Columbus fittted to my Octy the first week in August and I know that it was rushed in from Czech due to none being available in the UK.

The one feature I miss (had audience in previous Octy ,is the parikng sensor screen and auto mute)
