Has anyone with kids had this problem?

Featured Replies

I really want to buy a 1.8 Elegance Octavia Estate. We've done the test drive (great), sorted out the money everything. Then our 7 year old said, 'It was really uncomfortable in the back - the seat belt hurt my neck'. She is a rather 'dramatic' child but we went back to the showroom and realised she was right. On her booster seat the seat belt was so high it cut across her neck. In fact it was uncomfortably high on mine too (I'm 5ft 5). Usually they are in the car seats with backs with a seat belt guide so that's not a problem but I can invisage the day soon when she won't want to be seen in a babyish car seat. At 117cm she's got a while before she can go without. Help.

Haven't got kids, yet, but you could always try some seatbelt harness pads, may help.

How about the Tiddy Bear, as advertised by scott mills :D

You have posted the answer yourself. She has to be in a car seat until shes 12 or a certain height. The booster seat should hopefully move her body in relation to the seat belt and hopefully wont cut in.

You could always get one of those foam seat belt pads that she can adjust to her own level.

That's them, forgot to but a link on...lol

I got some for mine as a couple passengers in the rear had mentioned that the belt felt like it was rubbing on their necks.

Oddly enough my Wife complained about the back seat yesterday. Only had the car a week and she says that the front passenger seat belt sits high on her, went in the back yesterday and says that the rear belt runs across her throat!

Me thinks these two post need merging, hopefully a kind Mod will be along shortly.

Defo try some seat belt harness pads, there's a link on the other thread.

Thanks for the YouTube advert - great laugh. My husband also enjoyed it. Also sorry everyone for the double posting of this thread - my husband helpfully posted it again for me whilst I was putting kids to bed.

We've never had this problem before with seatbelts. Both the Mazda and Audi we have, have seatbelts resting much lower. I don't think pads (or teddies!) are the answer as the belt will still be on her neck and ear which will be annoying and possibly dangerous. Skoda obviously don't test on children!!

Seriously though, in a family car you would have thought the little people and me (5ft 5 is average height for a female in this country) would have been thought of. Are they tall in Czech Republic?

Sorry everyone - my first post went horribly wrong when my helpful husband re-sent my original message when I was putting the kids to bed:mad:. Typical Audi driver. Please reply to the other message while I try and sort it out. Good to hear any feedback though, though as I've said, seat belt pads aren't the answer as they won't change the position of the belt on the neck.

Threads merged.

Thanks bassy-alex, thats the best idea so far.

My 10 yr old still complains about the rear seat belt chaffing her neck. I bought two seatbelt cushions from E-bay, not had any problems since.

a seat belt harness thing that goes over the belt to soothen it works a treat with kids, mine use to have one and she stopped moaning about it. also try the booster seat as not only they higher up but van see more out of the car which might take their mind off things too.

The booster seat that we got from Halfords has a strap that repositions the shoulder strap onto the shoulder .THis strap is fitted to the booster and passes behind the child and up to his shoulder and works very well
