NewSouth ColumnPod

Featured Replies

I'm looking at fitting a boost guage, but dont want to loose any vents or cubby holes, or to make it look like a bodge.

So I discovered this: NewSouth Performance

Looks really tidy and is exactly what I want. Awesome GTi seem to be a distributor aswell.

My question is: Is the steering column cowling the same on a mk4 golf and a mk1 octy?

I'm guessing that it is, but I'd prefer confirmation before I shell out! I'm looking at getting the 'Mk4 Full TurboPod'.

Better give sarah a ring aswell....

Ahh that looks wicked mate, did you get the full replacement top cowling piece or just the overlay version?

It obviously fitted then! Where did you buy it from?

Very tidy dash you have there.

Thanks to Sarah, I know have one of these pods waiting for me. Just have to get my lazy butt over ther to collect it now!

I think it's the best boost gauge solution I've seen yet. But I'll see when I get it!

Now onto the annoying 'already-asked' question of the day.... fitting a boost gauge.

I know that i need to put the t piece off the FPR line, and run the hose down by the pollen filter into the dash.

But how am I going to get that hose up to the steering column, is it obvious? And where do I tap the power from that's near the column (totally clueless on that one)?

I hate wiring, and I hate fumbling round under dashboards! So I'm gonna need some help on this one guys! A guide would be nice...... ahem *nudge* Steevie *cough*!

I'll also need to get a green LED off Sarah when I go over to keep my green theme going. With the effort I put in getting a green HU, I think the gauge needs to be green too.

Cheers in advance

I would love to say I did a guide when I did it, but I didn't, sorry mate!

Take the boost pipe through the bulkhead by the speedo cable (there is a rubber gromit you can whack it through) - opposite side to the pollen filter!! It will be in the right place then for your gauge.

Tap in off the live going to the light control/rheostat; you can do an earth wire off the steering column support bracket.

Sorry no pics, but best of luck:thumbup:

Steve:)

Picked it up today from Awesome. Looks great. I'm yet to plumb it in yet, but the kit comes with everything you need to connect it all up (all wiring and vac hose fittings). Really impressed with it.

Not as much as this remap though! I thought the car was fast before! I can't stop grinning now!!

Haha that was my sister!! The Mrs is currently on holiday, hence the sneaky car related money spending while she's away!

Cheers for the tea Sarah, and I expect I'll see you again soon...

This remap is amazing :D, I went out for a drive last night across the peak district. Very fast, very addictive! Your like a drug dealer that's just got me hooked!!

Yeah that would be handy mate, I've got everything together to do the job, I've just got to get on with it now.

Looks like I'm going to have to remove the wiper arms, so I can take off the scuttle panel thing on the driver side.....

There's a bunch of wires going through the bulkhead just above the brake servo, so I guess I'll use that. Not sure if that's the speedo cable or not.

I'll have a more serious attempt tonight!

I will be putting a power cable for my amp in at the same time so will go through the hole behind the pollen filter as i went through there last time. Makes it a lot easyer as you just remove the glovebox and feed the pipe behind the stereo.

Right, it's fitted! Took me about 2 hours, but I did fanny about quite alot! Couldn't see how I could ever route the hose any other way than going through by the pollen filter, so thats what I did. And I took the light feed off the ashtray bulb wiring, as the bulb had gone in that anyway, and i dont need an ashtray light! Changed the pollen filter while i was there, the old one was proper manky.

Boost peaks at 17psi, love this remap!!

Wow

That does look good

Is that with the green bulb too?

Excellent , well done

So did you have to do much tweeking to the cowling itself , as I did say it is for a MK4 Golf , but we did know it would fit , but just how much work did it need?

Sarah

I would like to know how good a fit this is as well, did you just use the double sided tape?

  • Author

It is indeed with the green bulb. Just looks a bit dodgy due to the camera! It's all about the green!

The fit was fine, I didn't tweak the pod atall. All i did was sand off the burrs on the edges where it had been trimmed previously, so the edges were smooth and flush. The shape of the pod isn't perfect to the skoda cowling, but it's the right depth and width, and general shape, so still looks right once it's on, and doesnt stick out atall anywhere. I was impressed by how well it did fit to be honest. The steering wheel still has full adjustment too, and the colour matches.

I bought some black velcro sticky back pads to secure it down. 4 across the flat at the back, 2 on the sides and 2 on the top front. It's held solid and doesn't budge or squeak. I would definately use velcro and not double sided tape, as it means it's easy to service, and you can remove quickly it if you don't want it.

Thanks to Sarah for all the bits, really happy with it. How did I ever live without one!

Hi

Glad you like it

I must admit , it does look really good

I am pleased that it didn`t take much fettling either to get it to fit

Glad I could help

Sorry I got your sisiter and your Mrs mixed up

I'll try and take some for you this week if I get the chance. It's so subtle and out of the way I forget it's there half the time!
