New car, new questions.

Featured Replies

I've just bought a Fabia vRS and have a few questions about it.

It's still under warranty but I'm uncertain how long for. The book says 2 years and the Skoda says 2 years unlimited mileage but 3 years if the mileage is under 60k which it is. It currently on a 56 plate.

I've read on here about leaky door seals. My car ("touch wood") doesn't have this problem but should I get them to reseal all the doors as a precaution or am I tempting fate with them. By resealing them will it fix the problem 100%? It is an identical fix to the one on VRSStu's site?

On the test drive I noticed that the tracking may be out. It was pulling to the left a lot. but when I got home I noticed that the two front tyres were different makes. When I looked in at the servicing done on the car I worked out that the previous owner had Conti's put on the front and then swapped with the back two himself.

Looking further back in the history he had had a puncture in one of his rear tyres early on and put on a different make of tyre. Could this cause the pull to the left? My Dad said he had this problem with his old mini when he put cross ply tyres on the back and went through some unsurfaced road. It started running all over the place, almost finding it's own tracks.

I'm chuffed with car I'm just itching to drive it. When I bought the car it wiped me out so it's now sitting in my front garden waiting until I have enough for insurance so I have to wait until I get paid next (3 weeks) or until I send my Polo whichever come 1st.

I'm also considering taking the car to my mate who works for Audi who could give the car a once over to see if he could spot anything I could claim under warranty. Is this a good idea? Also as this is the 1st car I've ever owned with warranty left on it so what sort of things are covered? Everything except consumables I take it e.g. tyres, brake pads, etc.

One last thing. How much should it cost for a standard service and how much for the inspection service? Standard service was just done so its not due until next year.

And other thing I want to change the head unit as I would like USB compatibility. Would this void the warranty if I did this? Obviously if it does I'll just leave it until it runs out. Have to back to good old CD's.

Changing CD player wont affect warranty except to the speakers etc...

Thanks. The stereo I have has just come out of my Polo (6N2) and had the correct JVC to VW adaptor. Will it just connect straight in with this adaptor or do I need a different one? Does anyone have a part Number for this or a place to get it. Also the fascia adapter I will need is still the one on the fabia vRS site yeah?

Fascia adaptor is available from Skoda for a few quid, i made the mistake of buying an ill fitting one from Halfords for £12 :thumbdwn:

Yeah mate should be a straight fit

What about the pins in need to take out the symphony radio? Where's the best place to get those from?

OK, in order...

Warranty - is 3 years or 60k for non imported vehicles. As yours is under three years old and less than 60k (and presumable not an import) it under warranty.

Leaking doors - if it ain't broke...

Tyres - could be torque steer, could be tracking, could be tyres - they wander a bit to the left anyway due to the road camber. Depends what you call 'a lot'

Warranty (again): should cover any broken parts, not including wear and tear and any damage caused by neglect / accidents. If you find something not quite so ask your dealer to look at it and see if it'll be covered.

Service: various if 10k or 20k. Lets say 150 - 300 (cambelt service more)

Kenwood keys - Halfords will do

I was thinking that about the doors. IMO it's looking for a problem that isn't there and could cause more trouble than it's worth.

It's definitely not torque steer. Happens and normal speeds. I've accounted for road camber and don't think it's that. So it's probably either tyres or tracking. How much shoudl tracking should be? Should I do a 4 wheel alignment and would I have to have it at the dealers as it's still undre warranty and does this apply to tyres as well?

Sorry if these seem dull questions but I'm not sure what the dealer will be like if I get tyres and tracking done somewhere else while the car is still under warranty.

I was also told that because Skoda is under the VAG group I can get it serviced and warranty work done in any VAG Group dealership. My mate who works for Audi says it's rare to see this but it does happen. Someone came in the otherday wanting tracking done on a Lamborghini Gallardo but they couldn't jack the car up. Needed a specially designed machine to do it.

All Ibiza MK4 pull to the left slightly. I think its a problem with this platform, I wouldnt worry unless its extremely noticably. Get the tracking done anyway. Two different tyres wont help matters

Do you have two tyres of the same brand/style that you can put the front (providing they are not rotational orientated)? If you can then see if this problem still persists.

Just a thought.
