Its Here! vRS CR TDi. Thanks Autofinders.

Picked it up last night, what a car, what an engine. Very refined for a diesel, i can hardly hear that it's a tractor engine:D. Nice ride too comfortable seats and good quality interior. Massive boot for the nipper's pram and she's got loads of room in the back. Can't wait to get some miles under my belt and get to know all the in's and out's.

Had a big grin on my way to work today.

Big thanks to the people at Autofinders who looked after me after the hailstorm nightmare, a really good company who put dealerships i've previously used to shame. I highly recomend them :thumbup:Cheers guys.

I really hope you enjoy the car - this car is hopefully going to be what replaces my fabia in 3/4 years time :)

Enjoy it mate

I'm loving mine:woot:

:wrthless:

nice one... hope i haven't got too much longer to wait for mine (it's on a boat apparently... waiting for from dealership) :( same spec as yours but I had to have rear parking sensors (or wait even longer so i bit the bullet and went for them - though managing to get them for half price helped!)

I got the reverse sensors in the end with the help of a very nice man at Autofinders:thumbup:

Been for a quick spin tonight, put my ipod through the socket in the armrest, sounds awesome. Also put the speed up on the aircon display which is pretty cool, when it was reading 60mph on aircon the speedo dial was at about 65, quite a difference.

Hi S4INT, I'm thinking of changing from my 3 year old Fabia vRS, to the new Octavia vRS CR TDi; can you post a brief comparison in terms of performance, ride, handling and economy? Thanks.

The Mrs has stolen it today and i'm in her Yaris SR.

Only had a couple of goes so far. Only used quater of a tank so far (driving back from chesterfield 60miles? and a round trip to work 45miles). Its averaging 45-47mpg on the readout but a lot of people question the acuracy of them.

With it being a bigger car and a 2.0 compared to a 1.9 it will use a bit more juice but once it starts to loosen up (10k or so, anyone know?) should get a bit better. I've not been caining it though, don't want to over rev it for the first 1k.

Performance does seem better. Going round corners, which was the one thing i disliked about the Fabia is a vast improvement, its on rails but obviously its got a wider wheelbase. I can't recall feeling the initial 'Kick' on acceleration as much as on the Fabia, which is the thing that makes the fab seem rapid but i'll get back to you on that one.

Nice driving position as the steering wheel has both height and rake (is that the right term) adjustment for a lanky tw@ like me. Also the passenger seat is height adjustable which is a bonus.

The reason we swapped was for space in the back and the boot 560 litres (more than that new citroen estate and a BMW 5 series) for all the crap that comes with kids. Even though i swore we wouldn't be like my sister and take all that crap with us.

The big difference is engine and road noise. You can hardly tell its a diesel and the road noise isn't as bad.

Overall they're both fun cars to drive and bring a smile to the face, Octy slightly more practical, in my view, mines got a few few more toy's than the fab (but these could all probably be retro'd onto a fabia) and costs that little bit more to run.

If you've got kids i'd recommend it otherwise i don't think i would have swapped (maybe for a Fab SE instead if it wasn't for the nipper). Or if you've got dogs the estate is just as good as the hatch only 0.1 slower 0-60 i think and really does look good for an estate.

The choice is yours!!!

EDIT: PS, just seen that you drive an elise,so you must have £££, go for the Octy:D:D

Got mine yesterday too - amazing

It did look stunning sat here in the showroom matey, glad you're enjoying it

Thanks for the response S4AINT. Mine loosened up (improved performance and MPG) around 10k miles, also applied with my previous Merc E220CDi.

Really keen to read your view on performance comparison once you've put a few more miles under the wheels.

I've not found the Fabia too bad on cornering, but it certainly does transmit a lot of road / tyre noise into the cabin - really notice the difference when you get onto one of those quiet / rain absorbing motorway surfaces. So good to hear of the refinement improvement on the Octy.

Don't have £££££ now I've bought the Elise, but it is great fun. Just a shame the weather's been so awful this "summer".

How do you get the speedo reading on the climate desplay?

Hi,

I was going to start my own thread, but saw this so thaought i would add a few words.

I'm guessing that it was your nice new shiny blue vRS next to mine in the show room at Autofinders last monday (i know its been over a week, but been so busy not found chance to really get on to post). They did look very nice both in race blue under cover in the showroom out of the rain. talking of rain. it would be nice to have a dry spell to try the motor out properly.

When i first picked it up and on my way back to Lincoln, i thought i had made a big mistake due to the seat seeming uncomfortable compared to the A4 Sport's seats which seemed to have every possible adjustment going. But after also going down to Kent the day after and doing around 700 miles last week and continual playing with the seat position, i think my body is starting to get use to the change and i now find the seats pretty good when i get in.

Quick summary of the car so far, looks great in the blue, good interior, very smooth engine (very petrol like, but does seem strange after the surge of the pd), economical (averaged 51mpg to Kent & back, which I don't think is too bad from new), massive boot (I now don't have to take all of my work gear out at the weekend for be able to fit the kids clobber in), more room in the back, will see how it loosens up after a few miles under its belt?

Anyway, S4INT hope you are enjoing the car as much as I am

Happy motoring :)

Daz

PS: Already had to give it it's first was due to the bad weather , so preying for a dry spell!!

Dazler - it was me who you collected the car from on the monday, glad you are enjoying it and gotten used to the seats now!!

All the best mate and enjoy the car,

James :)

Yeah, the cars great. I've stepped up from a Fabia so the changes are massive.

I'll have to try and get a lincoln meet going again, if you're into that sort of thing. They did try before but dont think there was a big turn out.

Did you get a pic of them at the showroom?

Quote abbreviated.

Thanks S41NT for the compliments, far too many people use these sort of forums to moan about things and rarely praise, so I apprecaite your time into writing positive things, it make a refreshing change.

Glad to be of service and thanks again for the compliments

No worries, thanks for looking after us and keeping us up todate during the Great Hail Storm of '08 . I'll be recommending you to others.

The mrs said thanks for the Bakewell pudding too:D, nice touch.

Sorry S4INT did'nt get a picture, it's not even worth tring to get a picture with my phone.

Still loving the car myself, just coming up to 1K miles and got a very busy week in the car coming up, Norwich Monday, Aberystwyth Tuesday & Wednesday and Buxton later in the week. Should be good for evaluating the cars comfort and handling (if it's dry) with the good mix of road types on route.
