I have just noticed that if I press the Econ Button, the light Auto light stays on, is this normal, I expected to have one or other lit, but not both?

Auto light goes off if you turn the teprature out of range or the windscreed demist button, but insists on being on with Econ!

mine does this too.... I looked through the handbook but couldnt work it out.

What happens is the Auto setting is where you leave the Climatronic to sort itself out and maintain the set temperature. By presssing ECON as well, the climatronic will continue to do it's best to maintain the set temperature, but without the aid of the air conditioning.

It is normal - but when both lights are on the cabin can't cool below the outside air temperature. But it still maintains the "set" temperature as per Climate Control so long as that setting is above outside air temp.

If you're bugged by the Auto light still on just move the fan up or down a setting, that should kill it.

Normal behaviour on both my 06 and 08 plate cars.

The Auto button seems only to control the fan.

The Econ button switches the AC refrigeration off.

So far as I can see, Auto only allows the unit to control the fan speed, putting it up high if the temperature differential is big, and dropping it back down as it achieves the set-point. In this way it gets there as fast as possible, and doesn't make you sit in a wind-tunnel for longer than necessary.

The unit continues to try to control to the set temperature with whatever resources you give it. If the set temperature is 16, the outside temperature is 25 and you've selected Econ, it isn't going to be successful but it'll get it as cold as it can. If you've also switched off Auto and selected the lowest fan speed, that's going to be even less successful.

The climate unit does more. Automatically figures out which vents to put out air through, turn on recirculation at various times, etc
