give the guy a break,as long as SOMTHING stops the air coming out its fine isn't it?After all those ice racing tyres are just normal space savers with nails hammered into them arn't they? And how irresponsible are those guys, they must do way over 80kph.

so Red Baron since you are a clever ****

I am more than happy to be a clever **** its particularly gratifying when others around me make it even more apparent.:)

shall i remove the nixen tyre and replace it with the Continental spare tyre ?

I think even you can figure this out.... ;)

so you drove round knowing you had a nail in the tyre when you had a perfectly good spare in the boot?

James, seriously that's a great idea, replace the Nixen, keep that as a spare, and use the continental. That will also mean that on the same axle you have the same tyres with similar levels of grip.

Now your thinking !

When all we have left are back street fitters and ‘Specialists’ you might find nobody carries much stock, the rarely used expensive bits of kit the Dealers keep will no longer be easily available and you will have to buy your cars by guessing what they are like to drive via the interweb. We aren’t there yet, but it is slowly heading that way. Lummox did many years at a big Dealership and I feel he would agree at least in part to what I have said. Dealerships have to make a profit too, but they are jumping through hoops to a certain degree with having to follow the manufactures spec of a franchise.

Add the fact you'd also be wasting an hour+ of your time finding a decent price and going elsewhere for an unplanned tyre replacement and you'd be daft not to do it when the dealer spots it.

I have seen a transit that had a blow out on the motorway caused by a nail in the tyre....... The driver had to be cut out, but the driver of the clio he hit wasnt so lucky.

I wouldnt even consider getting in my car if the tyres were not 100%

I wrote my last car off in the wet because I had budgets on:( it was only the 1st time I had them in the wet, and i forgot they wern't as grippy as my others that were on before and bang. never again!!

No wrong speed caused you to crash,, i also like to blame the fact i had a crash because the car didnt have ABS, fact is wrong speed

I saw a lady once driving on a totally flat tyre. Followed her for five miles (yes FIVE MILES) flashing her to pull over. She was doing 80 down the M10!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

When she eventually pulled over, prob thinking I was going to attack her, she said she knew since she left Luton, but was nearly at work (in Watford) now so thanks anyway.

FUBAR'd low profile tyre, and also ally, on a 60K Merc (likely hubbys)

ive been on a motorway when ive had a rear outter tyre blow, then the inner one go seconds later not much fun on a (2 lane) motorway and wasnt much fun for the rest of the drivers when the police had to cone off one lane so the ats guy could put two new tyres on in rush hour. the vehicle was only half a ton off its weight limit (7.5t lorry) and it was dark, cold and wet and could have been hell of a lot more serious.

Most motorway accidents in the summer are caused by holiday makers who pack their cars to the brim go on a long journey with under inflated tyres or defective tyres (i.e. debris stuck in the tyre) because they think their tyres are ok. if it doesnt look right or has any lodgers that shouldnt be there (i.e. nails) then go get it looked at as its cheaper for them to take it out and fix it than it is for a new tyre or for a new car because its blown and caused you to crash (or worse).
