trust them to spot it

Featured Replies

took car in for it's 2nd service this morning with a nail in the the front tyre.i was hoping they wouldn't see it cause it's been there for a few months and seemed fine.

they've just phoned me saying the tyre can't be fixed so i need to get a new one (£60), so well done dealer for spotting it

also said something about 2 rear bulbs need replacing (tinting come off or something,i wasn't listening ).

seriously thou it's nice to know the mechanics were doing their job.

Bulbs are a common problem with the tinting coming off, I replaced both rear indicators at xmas and the bulbs only lasted 6 months before the tint came off when I had to replace them in June.

if its only a service tell them you will get someone else to do it,there is no way in hell i would pay anyone to replace a bulb, and you will get a tyre fitted cheaper than that too.

this is a wind up........right?

Thats what I was thinking. No-one would possibly be that silly to drive round in a car knowing there was a major issue with one of the tyres

local tyre place from me fixes punctures from nails and stuff for only about £6 much cheaper than replacing a good tyre.

but i'd get it sorted right away.

Exactly....

Perhaps, but wouldn’t it be nice to reward the garage for being vigilant and professional by letting them do the tyre at least. I have let my local dealer do mine, but haggled the price of the tyre down with them. I know the garage was doing it’s job properly and perhaps no more, but they do have to make a living and there are a lot of Dealers going bust at the moment.

Jeesus there is a lot happening when you post!!!!

LOL

That must be the most silly thing i've ever heard.. Also heard throwing your money down the drain or giving it to the Local drug addicts is good fun too

If you want to die that's your lookout, just hope I'm not in your crash when it blows !

maybe i'm wrong here but would it not only blow with a buldge in it?

surely a nail would cause a slow punture?

i've ran for months with nails in my tyres til i could be bothered getting it fixed.

personally i havent seen it as a danger, if the tyre goes flat, so be it, its not exactly a blow out.

Is this a serious post or a joke?

I would never risk my life or my passengers if I knew I had a bad tyre with a nail in it! Worst comes to the worst I would put the spare on untill I had my local tyre shop look at it for me.

I tend to look my car over at least once every week - Tyres, Lights and Fluids. If somthing is wrong then I would normally sort it and pronto.

Yes the Mechanics were only doing there job. Correct. I wouldn't like to be paid to service cars and not point out somthing that could potentially save a life.

Stop reading this and go and fix your car....Now...

your right i should have got it done.but it's done now, serviced and safe.i did go with the dealer cause the mechanic could have ignored it and finished the job quicker.got a cheap nexen tire for around £25.

ps got a lad at work who was a mechanic and a tyre fitter to have a look at it and he said as long as it didn't leak it would be fine.

Tyres tend to blow out more because of underinflation, the tyre heats up softens and pop, so a nail could lead to the underinflation and in turn the blowout.

well if you are trying to prove how much of an idiot you are then I think you can stop.. we now all agree.

cheap tyres = death wish.

When all we have left are back street fitters and ‘Specialists’ you might find nobody carries much stock, the rarely used expensive bits of kit the Dealers keep will no longer be easily available and you will have to buy your cars by guessing what they are like to drive via the interweb. We aren’t there yet, but it is slowly heading that way. Lummox did many years at a big Dealership and I feel he would agree at least in part to what I have said. Dealerships have to make a profit too, but they are jumping through hoops to a certain degree with having to follow the manufactures spec of a franchise. The dealers I worked for didn’t make much profit even though they had been around for many years.

I can advise you that you would be silly to give money to Drugs dealers as opposed to Car Dealers (unless you snort car exhausts, in which case the drug dealer may be safer for you) and throwing money down the drain is neither sensible or original

if the tyre wasn't a good a one the dealer wouldn't fit it would he.

I wrote my last car off in the wet because I had budgets on:( it was only the 1st time I had them in the wet, and i forgot they wern't as grippy as my others that were on before and bang. never again!!

 case closed.

so Red Baron since you are a clever **** , shall i remove the nixen tyre and replace it with the Continental spare tyre ?

looking forward to your funny/serious answer.

ps you be please to hear i've today paid £400 for my insurance and it was taxed last week, so if i did crash into your pride and joy and your car then everything would be ok.

Lol, give the guy a break, not everyone has as much experience or dare I say common sense.

Personally, I 'make progress' when I drive, and wouldnt risk riding about with anything other than good tyres with no holes in them. I do note that the car is a 1.2, so it hasnt got a massive amount of HP, but even so, you may be surprised how quickly the front end of a car can let go in the corner.

As for the garage not fitting them if they are not suitable, I'm afraid experience will tell you that this is not always the case. They are not your friend.

How quickly do insurance companies replace dead people nowadays?

James, seriously that's a great idea, replace the Nixen, keep that as a spare, and use the continental. That will also mean that on the same axle you have the same tyres with similar levels of grip.

Now your thinking !
