Shell V-Power whilst running- in?

Featured Replies

I am about to take delivery of a new Octavia vRS 170 CR DSG. For running-in, I will follow Honest John's approach and build up the revs. progressively.

I don't normally use Shell V-Power but I am thinking about it for the new car. Does any one have any thoughts as to whether using the fuel would help or hinder the bedding-in process?

Hi,

honestly I didn't think of this option when got mine.

Anyway I've recently started used Agip Bluetech which, in my country, is rated as high as Shell V Power and I'm indeed finding less noise, more smoothness and I think that the engine will be less stressed than with low quality gasoline.

I would use whatever you intend to run your car on. The engine management system will adapt either way.

i started to use vpower on my second fill up after my first was with crappy sainsbury 95 ron as i was never told by the garage that it needed to run on a min of 98 ron (95 in emergency), but thanks to this site i was correctly informed.

vpower wont do it any damage and as many members here will say, it might cost a bit more but you actually save money as you get better mpg with it to most ofther fuels.

Main reason for me to use V-Power or other synthetic diesel fuel is that synthetic fuel will produce less particles. It will burn with less residue than ordinary diesel.

I noticed less regeneration cycles than with normal diesel. So keeping the filter cleaner.

I only use normal diesel if my tank is really dry and no synthetic diesel is available.

Will I notice any improvement with my 2.0TDI 140?

Is it worth spending the extra over Shells 'ordinary' Diesel extra?

It's a CR 170 so a derv.

I can honestly say that V-Power Derv is a complete waste of money. Lower MPG, no noticeable power increase and higher cost.

If you want to pay extra for derv then I'd use BP ultimate derv, but in all honesty I'd just keep with decent brand normal derv from a garage with a reasonable turn over of fuel.

I never noticed any consistent difference between the 2 Shell brands when I had an Octy 140tdi. I did use Shell Normal Diesel a lot of the time and never had any problems with it.

IMHO No.

If you want to add something try millers power sport 4. It gets good reports on here from some people. However skoda do state you should not add fuel additives, so make of this as you will

Did you mean Skoda say you shouldn’t add additives?

I did ^^^ Fixed ta :)

I have used V-Power diesel for the last year or so (not been around any longer) and the car feels great.

Last summer, when V-Power Diesel came out, I ran a comparison test of back to back fill ups of 2 tankfulls each (900 miles ish on each fuel) of Shell regular, BP Ultimate and Shell V-Power. Overall I felt that the Shell V-Power gave the best response and feel from the engine. Difficult to quantify economy as I tend not to worry and drive briskly most of the time, but the V-power seemed to give 2mpg better than regular Shell and 1mpg better than BP ultimate.

On a technical front (have a look at Shell's website) their Gas-to-Liquid method of production for V-Power should lead to less particulates and therefore give your DPF an easier time of things.

Just for good measure; I use Millers Diesel Sport as well (as V-Power) and believe the combination was good for 8-10bhp extra on a rolling road.

Finally; start as you mean to go on. Collecting my wife's Roomster recently I drove off the dealer's forecourt with 50 miles range of fuel on board, found the nearest Shell filling station and brimmed the tank with V-Power; £60 fill up.
