How much does you're steering wheel vibrate?

Featured Replies

As per the subject really, I've a VRS and recently I've notice the steering wheel is vibrating more at idle. It can be stopped by gripping the wheel but just wondered if this was normal for the PD130 diesel's?

Cheers,

Mike :)

Sounds normal just a derv thing - lol

Would the Cage mod help to resolve this??

mine doesn't shake much (well, that i've noticed anyway lol).....only does it when i run over someone lol

Mine shakes like hell, but then there are a couple of very good reasons for it:D

Mine shakes quite a bit on occasion, depends on how i'm accelerating

Usually it's not too bad.

mate has a ibiza with a hybrid PD150 and the uprated engine mouts make the wheel shake so much on idel that it hurts to hold onto it.

That would be one of the reasons mine shakes try adding a spec billet ally flywheel into the mix for real shakes:D

Try changing your dogbone mount as the bush can become worn and cause cabin vibrations.

Mine does on idle ever since I bought it nearly new.

I just assumed they all did that to about the same degree.

It's noticeable but not annoying or off-putting in any way.... especially after driving a Clio diesel where everything shakes :D

Me too, and I suspect for the same reasons. Doesn't bother me at all though. :D

Mine has done it from new, so I don't worry about it much.

Thanks guys, it does produce a little cabin noise so I might investigate the dog bone mount, from what i've seen on here they aren't that expensive or difficult to fit if you are mechanically minded. I think if i do change it i'll go for the standard fit instead of any up-rated one as I imagine the rattling will be worse it its stiffened :)

I thought about trying the cage mod also, Maplins only sold the silicone grease in aerosol form so I thought better of it as it wouldn't be thick enough to coat the contacts - I'll be having a look around for the proper stuff on the net as everyone seems to swear by it.

The uprated ones are ment for petrols so id assume there quite crazy, not needed unless your crazy and going for like 1,000,000 bhp lol

Look no further:

Multi Purpose Silicone Grease > Maplin

The 50g stuff comes in a tube.

Applying the grease might not make the vibes any less seismic, but it sure won't make them any worse.

Just a diesel thing, noticed the PD's are worse, mine is a common rail, better, but still shakes like a tractor at idle, dads Octy is the same, and his work Berlingo.

I'll put myself out there in the minority then, as I don't think mine shakes at all. Wonder if I should be worried? :P

:iagree: same as above , no noticable vibration on the steering wheel , but on my sons vrs with the uprated dog bone , i think he will be putting in a claim for vibration white finger

I'm the same as the aboves also, with not a whole lot of shakin going on.

Might be something to do with the low miles on my VRS - only 10,000 on an 04-plate.

Feeling a bit left out, actually.

Would be interesting to know the ratio of ASZ engines to BLTs which have a shaky wheel.

If the engines and not the mounts etc are to blame, natch.

I managed to get round to fitting a new panel filter, I think it must have been the original one i removed as it was so black. Guess it would have been changed at my 40k service in december - arhh well. I also got myself some silicone grease, and i think the combination of both these changes has made a great deal of difference in how the engine responds at lower rpm. It seems to rev smoother making it harder to notice when the turbo kicks in at 2000rpm - which is a good thing.

Despite these changes i've still got vibrations at idle, and i've also noticed the odd knocking noise sometimes when i change gear. I'm contacted the local dealer and was quoted £20 + vat for the gearbox (dogbone) mount so will be ordering one tomorrow and fit it myself using the following guide - Thanks to Chris for such a useful guide.

I'll keep you all posted on the outcome.

:)

Have been monioring this for the last few days, and nothing....

mine does lighty but as said derv thing you should look at hoe much the engine wobbles on idle will give you an idea of why!!!
