temp sensor colour band important?

Featured Replies

Hi all, am experiencing "corner shop syndrome" and am about to change the coolant temp sensor. Thing is, the one on Jorily's website has a yellow band and mine is blue. What, if owt, is the difference? It's a 1999 1.3 mpi. Any input greatly appreciated.

some of them are wired up with the pins in a different configuration

Hi and welcome to the forum turbocroat :)

I too have been suffering from paper/corner shop syndrome, nobody here has come up with a definitive answer to this but the temp sender seems to be the first thing that needs looking at.

A few weeks ago I went the whole hog and exchanged several parts at the same time:

temperature sender

map sender

cam position sensor

coil bridge pack

and i think it was a knock sensor

I managed to get the lot for £10 at a scrap yard.

I haven't suffered the syndrome since but it is early days.

I found my main problem was, when cold, if i went up the road for half a mile and had to stop at traffic lights the engine revs would drop too low, the engine would stall and not start for a minute, in fact the engine would hardly turn over for that first minute.

I found myself juggling to keep the revs up and clutch/brake at the same time. Since I've changed the parts this has disappeared and the revs now pick up automatically as i come to a stop and i can also now pop into a shop and buy a paper :)

The temp sender on my 98 1.3 was orange and i changed to one with a blue ring, which i think is the earlier sensor, the visible difference i noticed is the temp gauge is showing just slightly lower than it was before.

If i have cured it, I'm not sure which part was the culprit but the knock sensor? (if that's what it was) had nasty dents in it (see photo).

Can anybody say what could have caused this?

It could have been Knocked! lol

That damage may have been caused by the gearbox being removed at some time while the hall/speed sensor was still in place.

This happened to mine while having some work done and the garage ordered a new one for me (well second hand).

the part pictured isn't a knock sensor

It's a good job philje123 told me what it was :P:D
