My rear wiper...............

Featured Replies

.......wont turn off! Its wiping all the time. (not intermitant) Cant think of whats causing it. Basically it will only turn off when I take the key out the ignition. Any ideas to fix it?

My guess would be something wrong with the fues box/relay... Water ingress perhaps?

Sorry I can't really be more specific. In the mean time, you could take the inner trim panel off the boot and unplug the motor, just so it's not knackering the blade/window by wiping when dry.

Do wiper motors still have a park switch inside? If so, I'd go for this jammed on/broken.

Or even a fault on the operating stalk.

I'd say all of the above are feasible.

iirc, this has been mentioned on here, and the cause was water ingress into the motor unit. Although I would initially go for a faulty stalk or relay.

I`ve disconnected the motor to stop it and there doesnt seem to be any sign of water about. Is there any way to test the stalk or will it be a garage job? :thumbdwn:

You could try a multimeter on the plug at the motor end and see what you get.

A multimeter would also be my first port of call.

Can vag-com test the output from the wiper stalk?

Did the OP ever get to the bottom of this? My rear wiper tends to be reluctant to turn off, although sometimes turning it back and and off helps, or pushing it off and slightly through so that the front wash wipe operates. I also seem to remember that the manual suggest two positions on the wiper stalk for rear intermittent and constant, but mine seems to only have to one before it goes into rear wash wipe - am I missing something?

i had the same problem with mine, some times the front came on at the same time. it turned out to be the rear wiper motor nackered. the plastic washer pipe that runs through the middle of the spindle (to the outside of the car) was broken and basically poured screenwash in to the motor. quite a common problem accross the vag range

hope this helps in any way

That's got to be worth a go - I'll take a shufty around when I get 5 min, cheers! :)

I seem to have contracted the other usual issues of the iffy recirc flap motor and the front windows intermittently losing their one-touch operation too. At least I'm in good company :)

Have fun replacing that recirc flap motor! Muhahar! Use a small child if you can. Tis a right pain.
