Battery experimenting time ....

Featured Replies

Did you need to recode the radio as the battery had been disconnected?

Also I am interested to hear that your rubber bungs may have been modified. What month and year is your Superb. I also have a 2.5 V6 Nov 2005.

I kept the rest of the car on an external mains PSU, a special, custom made, dedicated unit called Toshiba 15V laptop adapter with 12V plug attached to it. :P

But I did disconnect battery on another occassion some time ago, did not have any problems with the radio coding.

My car is from April 2006. Also, I could see only one drain (with the rubber grommet), right under the battery, where was the other one supposed to be? Most descriptions on these forums said clean plenum drains (plural).

One drain under battery tray, the other is in the well for the servo housing - and has a pipe running through it.

Hm, where you buy those from? MotorWorld? :P

Ebay, actually :) It makes a great battery charger. Kept the other battery in good condition for the past 5 years.

Once the battery is charged up, this laptop PSU gives at most 2Amps which is just enough to de-sulfate the plates, for charging it is current limited to about 8A, so it can safely plug-in to the lighter socket. And as most laptop PSUs it's protected against shorting and overheating. It's Ok to use up to 24hrs, afterwards you'd be better off with trickle charger (2A over long period of time is enough to lose some water in the battery).

I used to have an automotive charger, gave out the same current but was not regulated resulting in 100Hz interference and voltage spikes in the installation that were large enough to blow the LEDs. I switched to this laptop PSU about 4-5 years ago.

Thanks for the info dieselV6.
