Just bought an 04 Vrs with 60k on clock, driven for the last 40k by some guy in his 50's to work and back on the motorway so doubt it's been thrashed....

Anyhow, looking at a remap at awesome, what bhp/lbs ft could a standard clutch handle?

my vrs has an awsome map and is around 180bhp dont know the torque though but clutch seems fine with it

I was told the standard clutch is rated to 300ft/lb. My custom Jabba map gave me 294ft/lb so was within the tolerances I was told.

Also, it depends on the nature of the map. Even a standard (unmapped) car can eat the clutch if you insist on flooring it at low revs all the time. Not to mention the stress on the DMF. A good map spreads the the power throughout the rev band rather than dumping it all at 1800rpm. Mine comes in with a more gradual feel than before and needs to be revved to make it go, producing peak power at 4000rpm.

interesting, thanks for the replies! Was on the phone to awesome this afternnon pricing up some upgrades. I just assumed a custom remap would require the clutch upgrade.

This puts a smileon my face now as the clutch was around £520 + fitting + vat. Which was considerably eating into my mods budget.

What would you recommend spending the money on instead?

Already getting koni springs n dampers, Rear anti-roll bar, front strut brace, 160 intake, panel filter, and an awesome custom remap.

Would a front mount be a good idea? or would the power/torque figures to warrant a front mount, also require an upgraded clutch?

I'm not saying your wrong, but why would Skoda put a better clutch in the 07 model when the engine/torque/power is indentical in all of the years. Unless of course there was a known fault with the earlier ones.

i had no problem with my clutch

With the remaps from us , as they are custom , it can be detuned slightly with the torque so to save problems with the clutch

Not all vRS`s suffer with them , as with the majority of the cars , it depends how they have been driven before you bought it

Alot of the problems come from accelerating in 6th gear

They did.nt all have the same power, the blt engined cars 2006 ish on were quite a bit more powerful mine ran 155 bhp and 270 ft lbs bog standard, as for other mods a front mount is a very good idea because when it gets warm the fabia really suffers heatsoak when re mapped i would also recomend a peloquin active torque biasing differential as it is just about the best mod you can do on a fabia in my opinion

cheers, i've been on the phone this week to Mark at Awesome about getting some mods v.soon as i'm not too far from manc. I've pretty much got everything sorted just trying to source 4 octy vrs wheels so i can spray them anthracite.

Don't mean to sound like a t*at but of course they weren't all the same power. Put two std turbo'd cars next to one another and there will always be diferences in power. Focus RS's were quoted @ 212bhp but most had 220-230 std. My TVR t350c is quoted @ 350 bhp and it ran 337 bhp until i had it remapped and the red rose engine upgrade it now runs 376 @ 7350 rpm .

If what you say is true then that's impressive, but my point is over the years Skoda still quoted them at 130 bhp and 229 ft lbs from 2003 - date so my point was why would they put a better clutch in when the standard one is rated to 300 ft lbs anyhow and has had no known problems/issues.

My friends dad has on 02 bora tdi 130, with 150k on the clock still running the original clutch.

better than the polo cupholder mod?

My Polo cupholders got handed down to SWMBO - got sick of a. having to drink the first 1/3 of any can / cup straightaway to ensure it didn't spill eveywhere because of the angle the holder comes out at b. I couldn't be doing with not being able to get at the gearstick comfortably with both holders out. Now have the Elegance box and super-cheapo cupholder-instead-of-ashtray, which do me fine! Would have got the Elegance cupholders, but fitting them seemed quite involved...

No, the std mark1 octy vrs alloys. Similar to fab vrs ones but larger and thinner spokes. Few people on here have them on their fabias and they look really nice especially when slammed.

spiders are the wheels.

On topic, half the problem with the clutch is how its driven. Use low revs everywhere (like my mum does!), will muller a clutch, esp when mapped, but feed the power in steady, and it`ll last.

Fair enough after all what do i know eh?

Plenty of people have killed their clutchs on standard maps, so it really is down to how you drive it.

Just out of interest what are those wheels called on the Octy above? Are they the golf wheels?
