rSAP Phones that work?

Featured Replies

I am eagerly awaiting the delivery of my 170 2.0 ltr tdi brunello rosso wonder car, has any owners out there discovered which mobile phones will work correctly with the rSAP system fitted to the columbus unit.

In the brochure it mainly list Nokia phones (btw I hate Nokias I have a HTC touch diamond at present) the only othere phones seem to be little heard of ones.

I don't want to swap phones but if I need to I may have have to.

Any one help?:orb_phone

I can't get my N95 to work with it which is very odd.

The N95 along with most Symbian S60 phones are known to NOT work with the skoda bluetooth kit. There was a list in the octy 2 of known phones that do work.

:(My Sony Ericsson w910i worked fine in my Octavia Scout with Columbus and Stu's bluetooth kit, but it won't work in my new Superb!!!!

It seems to be a different system in the Superb, you can even get your text messages in the Superb.....if your phone works!:(

Nothing on 3 will work.

That's rSAP. Have you looked for a setting on your phone for rSAP?

Why??

Just looking at my N95 menus, maybe it will work with the supeb. Under Tools > bluetooth try turning remote sim mode on and give that a try.

can't see anything!!!!

Why??

I'm assuming we are talking the radio pairing with a phone here?

I read a brochure a few days back and it said no 3 phones work, I'm sure it was a Superb one and not another firms cars.

The New Superb Brochure does in fact state that the N95 will work with full facilities with the columbus and GSMIII system.

Gotta keep looking as I don't want a Nokia:thumbdwn:

I'm not sayting that phones from 3 will work but I do find it a little odd to think that none will. rSAP is a method that the phone handset allows other devices to access the SIM so in my mind it is a handset function and not a network function.

I got my N95 to work. You need to activate 'Remote Sim Mode' as stated above.

Works nicely now, quite a cool system and very easy to use.

It looks like you lot are the type that must have the NEW phone that comes on the market

There is nothing wrong with Nokia my 6310i is 10 years old and still works and is in use every day in the taxi the only think I have done is get a long life battery

I've just looked at my Touch Diamond and it does have rSAP.

Settings/Connections/Bluetooth/Sim Access and tick Remote Sim Access.

Yeah, I am a geek and quite like to have gadgets. Half the stuff my phone can do I never even use. It has got GPS built into it which I have used once to find a train station.

Can't remember if the 6310i has bluetooth or not, but if you get a new Superb you might as well change it for a new phone with Bluetooth as it makes connectivity so much easier. I know the 6310i is great for ease of use and I think Nokia did recognise this and produce an great replacement for users such as yourself.

Yes Bluetooth included, works with all hands free systems

I don't think it's the phones Stu, I believe it's actually 3 that is the problem iirc.

well, i've tried to upload updated software from Sony E and now my phone's foobard and doesn't work at all!!!!!!!

Can now confirm that the iPhone running 2.1 firmware definitely does not work with the new Superb and Columbus.

The iPhone only supports the older bluetooth phonebook profile. This works fine in a Passat with RNS510 and bluetooth, but it seems that the bluetooth in the Superb only supports rSAP.

This is a bit disappointing, as you'd think they would support both rSAP and the phonebook profile to ensure compatibility with a wider range of phones.

Oh well. Guess I'll have to hope that Apple fix this in a future firmware update (ha, and pigs might fly!).

I've been and driven the 170 DSG today and did see that in the brochure. The list of phones in the brochure is typically of German origin, I am sure there will be a lot more phones that are compatible.

To see the benefit of this system, You need to understand what bluetooth "Remote SIM Access" profile is!

In bluetooth handsfree or headset profile, the GSM portable still works as a phone, so you are dependent on the position of the phone (in bag/pocket/boot!) as to what sort of network signal you get - the bluetooth connectivity extends the phone audio to a headset or carkit system plus some control & info functions, dependent on phone/car kit capability.

Bluetooth remote sim access is very different.

In this mode, the car kit is actually a GSM transceiver/phone - the remote access allows the car kit to grab the SIM info from the portable, which then ceases to be a phone (i.e radio switches off).

The advantage of this mode is that the car kit acts as a fitted car phone, with decent radio performance as it has an proper antenna, but with the bonus that you are still using the same mob no. as your portable - and it makes no difference to performance if the portable is in you pocket/bag or boot, providing the bluetooth connection from portable to car is reliable.

There are not many aftermarket/accessory car kits that have this function - Nokia 610 (now superceded) and 616 (current) do!

Good explanation JayTee.

I'm not sure why some mobile companies feel they need to disable RSAP in their phones, but 3 obviously have some objection. Orange used to be the same. I had an SPV M1000 which supported RSAP, but Orange disabled the control panel that would enable it. You could turn it on, but you had to hack about in the Windows Mobile registry.

From my perspective, it's a shame they didn't carry over the support for the phonebook access protocol. The older bluetooth kit did this, so it wouldn't have been hard to incorporate it into the Superb.

It looks like I'm going to have to buy a new phone just for use with the Superb. I'll probably just end up getting something PAYG, and popping my existing SIM into it whilst I'm in the car. It's a pain, but there you go. Sadly, the chances of getting Apple to implement RSAP seem to be next to zero.

Had chance today to try a couple more phones with the new Superb.

As expected (because it's on the Skoda list), the Nokia E61 works perfectly.

Not on the list is my XDA Orbit 2 (HTC Touch Cruise), but this also works fine. You simply need to enable remote SIM mode in the bluetooth control panel.
