Changing rear bulbs - easy?

Featured Replies

A couple of weeks ago I replaced the bulbs in the front of my vRS.

Nightbreakers all around and some chrome indicators.

Was a little worried about the need to remove the whole cluster - thanks to the guide here it was all done very easily.

I've just got my chrome indicator bulbs for the rear clusters now.

I've not actualy taken a good look yet, however how easy is it to change the rear bulbs on the Octy II?

I'm assuming you gain access from inside the boot - simple clips etc?

Plenty of threads here about front bulb replacement, couldn't find anything on rear...

It's explained in owner's manuals and it takes like 30 sec per bulb. It's done from the boot just by uncliping bulbs holder. After you unclip it, pull it away and you have access to all bulbs from the cluster.

On mine I put Philips Silver Vision at the front and back turning signs. So, no more yellow peaking from clusters.

Should have known it would be in the users manual - come to think of it, of course it would be in the users manual.

I now can't believe I even started this thread :)

I'l put it down to "almost end of week tiredness".

Cheers.

No problems

Just be gratetful that the Skoda handbook is so good. The handbook for my wife's Golf gives no help whatsoever for changing bulbs. Such complicated procedures need the expertise of your highly qualified VW technician.

Octavia bulb replacement is very easy and the system has obviously been designed by someone who thinks that there are still jobs that can be done by the average driver.

Prompted by this post, I decided to have a quick look at mine - sad or what!

Anyway, the doors won't open. The catches release OK, but it looks like the opening edge of the doors is still attached to the main molding in a couple of places. Anyone else had this problem?

Cheers Bob

Yes they are often like that from the factory, a cut with a sharp craft knife should sort it.

Wonderful, thanks for the info.

(That was plan A, but I thought it was worth a post to check.)

they easy to change and even i can do them without asking for help and certainly easier than the pesky front ones!!

Aye - mine were still "attached" to the rest of the boot as well.

So good old knife and in we went.

Once inside they weren't too difficult to do - I've just replaced the orange indicator bulbs with chrome ones.

I'm quite used to doing the front lights now as well.

It only takes 5 minutes to remove each front cluster.

Then replacing:

Dipped & Main with Osram Nightbreakers

Side Lights with Philips Blue Extreme

Indicators with chrome again

The only really difficult ones were the front side-lights as you need long-nosed pliers to get the things out, but I even did those with only minimal damage to one of my hands!

Im struggling with the brake lights, seem to become a pain in the rump.

I can get the sidelights and brake lights to work, but the sidelights are not very bright at all!

The bulbs in before were brighter and they were only 4W for the sidelight the new ones are 5W!

Never tried it but the access panel comes off easily enough.
