Exactly, how many texts per month.

Dont be fooled by tarrifs offering unlimited texts. Unless you send hundreds every month, you dont need it. In fact I think many will struggle to hit 300 texts! A text actually costs the network next to nothing (£0.001 to be kind of precise) to send.

Irrelevant really, this one does have unlimited texts, but that is in comparison to other networks charging £40 a month for about 400 texts on a 12 month contract. I'll let you do the maths ;)

It may well cost them nothing, but people like orange seem to like making the customer pay through the nose for it. Their 12 month contracts are truly horrific.

On my old contract I had 1000 texts, and yes, there were a couple of occasions when I exceeded that. Generally I didn't, but I still use a fair few texts a month. I have very texty friends lol. Also, at work I can only get away with textig. Ringing would be a bit obvious!

ive just got my new phone... its not a nokia :D

Nearly every network has a fair usage policy of 1000 texts/month. There's no such thing as unlimited.

TBH no firm is offering any decent deals for 12months. However, if during an 18month the network changes the prices or terms, that's your option to junk the contract ;)

I got myself a Samsung I8510-INNOV8

Apart from it having a 8mpx camera (which im not bothered about) it runs on Symbian S60 (FP2) so its a newer version of the same O/S as the N95.. so its very familiar. has a very nice screen, 8gig onboard memory, memory card slot, 1200mh battery. and the usual raft of high end phone features, gps etc

the one that got me is that it supports divx and DLNA. :)

Its physically bigger than the N95 but feels far better built.

Personally the feature i like the most about it is the centre button is also an optical sensor (like you get on optical mice) so you can use it like a mouse in web-browsing just by brushing your finger over it :)

ill give a better review once ive had time to use it for a few days

Oh my god. I'm not getting into an argument about the contract! I don't need unlimited texts, I very rarely need more that 1000, but I need more than MOST companies are offering - THEY ARE ALL ****E 12 MONTH CONTRACTS - EXCEPT THIS ONE!!! simple. So, what if they DON'T change? Then I'm stuck for a year and a half, which I don't want to be!

Col - sounds nice that :) I've put mine on back burner for a while, cos I dunno what I want really. I just feel that if I get one of the phone they are offering 'free' then it'll be like downgrading rather than upgrading lol!! Oh I dunno, it's all very confusing :(

I'd like to get an internet add on so that I can actually get more usage out of the phone etc...

Well if theres nothing wrong with your phone.. just keep it.. O2 would have done me a deal, keep the phone, same tarriff.. but half price on a month by month rolling contract, so no commitment and you can re-commit/change networks when you find a phone you want.

I actually ended up getting this phone from carphone warehouse.. they tend to offer different deals to O2 but still on the O2 network. in the end i managed to wangle this phone out of them for free (should only be free on 45quid contract) and the web bolt-on for free.. all for £35 a month on a 18month contract.. so ive got a new phone and am paying £7.50 less for the same benifits on the same network, altho they have given me a new simcard that i have to change to when mine stops working.

Also remember.. if you want a new phone, its FAR cheaper just to buy it sim free than get tied into a expensive contract just to get the phone you want. 35 quid a month is still over £600 over a term.

I know, I was considering buying one like that, but I don't want to spend loads really. Don't forget though, if I did that then I still have to pay line rental, so may not work out cheaper at all! Although the £35 a month is mostly paying for the phone, at least I'm not paying on top for texts and calls etc. Maybe you should come with me to carphone warehouse then, you sound like a good deal wangler!! Trafford centre next weds night?? lol!

I actually quite like a htc phone that my friend sent me a link to. Don't know anything about them, but it certainly looks snazzy LOL!

That particular HTC phone is HUGE!

also HTC runs windows mobile ... which is a bad bad phone... id suggest an iphone instead of one of those.

I wouldn't touch another HTC phone with a bargepole. They just never feel fully developed to me.

Ok thanks, I'll bear that in mind lol!!

I've had an SPV M1000 that would sometimes crash and refuse to take calls -great when you're on standby -and a Vox, which sometimes worked so slowly that you couldn't make calls.

Both ran Windows Mobile. Badly!

Where's a good/cheap place to get an unlocked new phone?

I'm currently on Flext35 paying £26 [got an intro offer when they first introduced the plan], including VAT. tMobile have offered £15 off my line rental so, if they exclude my intro offer, puts me down to £17 a month, after VAT, but no new phone.

I currently have a W800i. Does everything I need but it's getting a bit old. Qutie fancy a W910i.

Talk to me. ;)

 THREAD HIJACK!!!! lol

Pffft. :P

Didn't warrant a new thread, and the pretty pink text attracts many to it. :D

Sorry. :(

[edit] Buying an unlocked phone was mentioned, I'm sure...

Check out the clearence deals on the cpw website for sim free

Depends how much the phone is SIM free. The N96 is nearly £600, so technically would be free.

A standard Nokia/SE etc would be sub £200, so then yes Sim free may be cheaper option.

well now im going to try and exchange my samsung.. as it has an annoying design flaw that lets it get dust under the screen

CPW wont exchange it because its "faulty" so im going to try and get it done under O2s 14 day exchange.. probably for a N96

They should if it's under 14 days, however they will only give you the same model.
